I could only find old topics on this and I want a resent rulling.
If an ork unit of ard boys (4+ armor save) has feel no pain (from mad doc) and they are hit from a AP 3-4 weapon do they get feel no pain?
I say yes but I have a friend that says no. He belives since they are not getting the armor save then they can't feel no pain.

tell your friend he needs to read feel no pain 3 or 4 more times.
Yes they get the FNP roll.
Only AP 1 and 2 ignore feel no pain along with any attack that ignores armor saves outright(Power weapons, rending, certain psychic powers, etc) and instant death.

For a weapon to disallow FNP it has to ignoreall armor saves, not just the armor save of the unit being shot.

Yes, they will get FnP unless the shot also causes Instant Death.

Can you give an example of why you would want to not use this. I can't think of a tactical reason why you might want a guy to die but I'm sure there must be one.

IF you want your small, about to be dead unit to DEFINITELY be dead - so the opposing unit is out of combat on your turn, ready to be shot and / or assaulted afresh.
It's irrelevant - you must use the best save available, you cannot choose not to use one.

There are many reasons why. For example, a squad of [Just about anything bar Tau] assaults a IG Infantry Squad which happens to be in front of an ungodly amount of Executioners. You really, REALLY REALLY want those IG to die, but alas you have those annoying things like Armour saves to stop you!
