Captain - 165 power sword artificer armor bike Command Squad - 280 company standard bikes 4 plasma guns x3 Tactical Squads - 215 each meltagun plasma cannon chainsword (sergeant) Rhino Terminator Assault Squad - 480 thunder hammers and storm shields Land Raider Redeemer x3 Land Speeders - 60 each multi-melta x2 Vindicators - 125 each siege shield Please post any suggestions that you might have. A few questions. How many plasma cannons does the devastator squad box come with? Can a Command Squad Veteran on a bike have a storm shield and another weapon? It doesn't say that I can't take that combination, but it doesn't seem right. If so, how would I model that?

I like the list myself. I usually like having at least a few 48" range weapons but your force is mobile enough that this may not be a problem. I particularly like vindicators...these have been consistently great performers in my games.

2 PC, 2 LC, 2 HB, 1 MM and 1(?) ML. Not completely sure about the missile launcher, could be 2.

Look ma, no hands!
Seriously, it's allowed and I have no idea on how to model it. I'd personally keep the command squad relatively cheap.

That's exactly what I was thinking. A friend of mine suggested that I take a few storm shields but it didn't seem right and my command squad is already kind of expensive. How can I get extra models like plasma cannons and terminators without buying a new box set? Also, how can I model the command squad and captain on bikes? Do the bikes come with the bottom half of a space marine or do I have to improvise? If anyone still has any suggestions, please post them.

Drop plasmaguns from command squad add 2 meltas, 4 stormshields, 1TH and 3 Lightning claws, add relic blade to your captain to. Plasma cannons aint that good in 5th and devastators aint that good either. You relly want a MM on your landraider.
I would run it like this
Captain 540
Relicblade, stormshield, Bike
Commandsquad
3xLC 1xTH 4xSS 2xmeltagun Apothecary
Bikes
3xTactical squads 620
1xMeltagun 2xflamer 3xMultimelta
Rhinos
3x Landspeeder 210
Multimelta, Heavyflamer
Assult terminator squad 460
5xTH/SS
Land raider crusader
Multimelta
2x Predator
Autocanno, Heavybolter 170

I do want some plasma in my army, but I have heard similar things about plasma cannons. I was only asking about the devastators box because it is the only box I know of that has plasma cannons.

Anyone have any more advice or comments? I want to have a good idea of an army before I buy anything. Also, if anyone knows what I'll need to buy, particularly for the command squad, please tell me. Thanks.

Personally, I would include vindicators in the list rather than Preds. They aren't nearly as good against light tanks at range (obviously) but I think it works better with the rest of your army for the following reasons.
1) The Rest of your army is going to be focused on getting to targets as fast as possible, if you add two more medium tanks that are also running a blitz, you'll have more coherency in your army. This A) makes your army easier to command because you have a tightly focused game plan that you can stick to, and B) just goes a long way to supporting your units.
2) When you reach aforementioned targets, it is more than likely that you will want whatever is defending these objectives to die as fast as possible. When it comes to killing swathes of enemies in a single salvo, few things do it better than a vindicator.
3) the two vindicators will give your opponent yet another choice of targets that they must address. Between terminators in a land raider, a nasty, super durable, command squad, and TAC squads racing towards objectives, your opponent will have a rough time trying to deal with them all at once, and will in all likely hood make at least a few mistakes on fire allocation that you would be able to take advantage of.
One last thing, I would very much support replacing the 4 plasma guns in the command squad with melta guns. Especially if you take my advice and take the vindicators. First of all, 2 vindicators will more than make up for the loss of 4 plasma guns (2 S9 Ap2 5" templates of death > 4-8 S7 Ap2 shots), and second, this gives you another highly mobile anti-tank unit that would very nearly make up for the lack of long ranged AT weapons.

You need to tool your commandsquad for CC or it will get killed against most armys cause then its only your captain thats good in CC those other guys wont help him.
Put some power weapons in there you already have alot of points invested in that squad and now its not dangerous at all.

Well I designed an all biker army for someone once that wasn't all that bad.
It involved 4 ravenwing boxes, commander on bike, 3 preds, 2 AoBR dreads and 2 Aegis defense guns.
Not bad for an all bike army. Not exactly cheap though.
Captain on bike w/ ss/relic blade/dig weapons
3 x 8 bikes w/ ab w/ mm, sarge w/ pf and 2 melta guns
3 preds w/ ac/las spons
3 typhoon land speeders
2 rifleman dreads
2k exactly.
It would have one land speeder, one ab and lots of bits from the ravenwing boxes to sell/trade.
Total of 4 tl- ac's, 3 ac's, 6 las cannons, 6 ml's, 3 hb's, 3 mm's, 6 melta guns, 3 pf's and a relic blade. Highly mobile.

Bump. Could I replace the lightning claws with plasma guns or would that make it too weak in cc?

Since you seem to be buying everything I would advise taking some bikes as troops instead of the tacticals.
Some minor changes to this list would be to take a relicbalde on your bike captain instead of the crappy PW and AA. Drop one Termie from the squad and take a MM on your LRR and 3 MGs in your command squad.

I don't want to have too few troop choices and from what I can tell, if I took bike squads instead, I would only be able to afford two. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Captain - 165
relic blade
bike
Command Squad - 325
company standard
company champion
bikes
3 plasma guns
3 storm shields
x3 Tactical Squads - 210 each
meltagun
missile launcher
chainsword (sergeant)
Rhino
Terminator Assault Squad - 490
thunder hammers and storm shields
Land Raider Redeemer w/ multi-melta
Ironclad Dreadnought - 150
ironclad assault launchers
x2 Predators - 120 each
side sponson lascannons
