So I was watching the old GI Joe cartoon the other day and one of the zap-zap firefights with Cobra made me think, "Wonder if anyone's ever built a Cobra IG army?" Then I started figuring out how to play it viably.

Does this happen to anyone else, where you're looking at any old thing and next thing you know you're trying to figure out how to 40K it?

You're definitely not the first person to think it. My friend did it already; he's now got about 4000 points or so of Cobra-themed Imperial Guard (And he just got his first Baneblade for Christmas). Blue tanks with red-clad guardsmen, and some awesome conversions of various characters. He's got that ninja character converted from Marbo, a Cobra Commander conversion, and a Destro that looks amazing.

One of these days I should steal some pictures and post 'em on here...

There's some Cobra-themed Guard army here on Dakka. Search through the gallery and you should be able to find something. Regardless, I support this idea fully.

Haven't thought of that, but I do look at things and wonder if I can "40k it".

When I watched Matrix Revolutions, I found myself thinking about exactly that. I was thinking counts-as Tau, with the suits for the mech things, and assorted tanks for the hovercraft, or Gaurd, with sentinals and Valkyries/Vendetas.

For me its C&C Tiberium Wars GDI, Nod and scrin would be awesome in 40k. I always seem to think up statlines and rules for the units.

And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.

I'm always finding myself thinking "that would make a great army," and then promptly forgetting about it. I'm still trying to figure out how to do Optimus Prime as a battle suit (G1 Prime, not this later incarnation namby-pambys)

Years back, there was a kid ran an IG army themed after GI Joe at the Baltimore GT. Every model was named after a Joe character. Good idea, but his execution left somewhat to be desired. I've heard of Kobra themed armies but have yet to see one.

A guy in my gaming club runs an Cobra-themed IG army. Cobra Commander and Destro in a command squad, Stormshadow is an assassin, DKoK as Crimson Guard, with Vipers for heavy weapon teams. It's very well executed - the player wears a Cobra shirt when he takes it to tourney.

Personally, I always wanted to do the Machine army from the Matrix as a Necron force.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
