Tyranids with wings move as jump infantry.

Under the movement section for jump infantry in the rule book, it says that all jump infantry may deep strike.

So, can a winged tyranid deep strike, as the ability to do so in contained in the movement section of the jump infantry rules, or would it take precedence that deep strike is a form of deployment, so its existing in the movement section has no bearing?

AFAIK this question has sparked a rather lengthy debate somewhere on this forum.

It basically boils down (from what I've read) to a debate as to whether Deep Strike counts as movement, and thus whether "moving like jump infantry" would confer that rule. Making it more complicated is the fact that the Chaos Space Marine codex (the other guys with wings) specifically states in its 'Wings' entry that a model equipped with wings may enter by deep strike, which sort of sets a precedent...

My opinion, now that I've taken a look at the rules for jump infantry, is that yes, they may Deep Strike. (p52, under the "Movement" heading for the section titled "Jump Infantry:" "All jump infantry units may enter the battle by 'deep strike', as explained on page 95")

Of course, it says 'jump infantry units' which a model with wings IS NOT, though since it's under the movement rules and CSMs w/ wings may Deep Strike, I consider it to be still part of 'moving like jump infantry'.

Under the couch

There was a rather lengthy discussion on this here.

Essentially, it boils down to whether or not you consider the Deep Strike being included under the JI Movement rules to make it movement.

I'm going to lock this to avoid starting the whole thing up again.
