Hey guys,
Today I got my first "modelling injury" when I accidentally got some superglue on one of my model's bases without noticing, it was being stubborn and I had to hold it a while to get the glue to set... I pull my hand away from the model and ack, a chunk of my thumb's underbelly comes off on the base I'm sure it'll heal just fine but I know there are others, like a friend of mine, who've been permanently "wounded" by modelling (in this case, my friend has a big cut in his thumb).
So I was wondering if perhaps all you Dakkaites might like to share some horror stories?

Yeah. Nothing more than the occasional finger cut from a scalpel. I sat on mine once. I'm surprised it didn't cut me. I had left it on my chair and forgot it was there.

When I was a kid I had a slip while cutting flash off a model. It ended up with a lot of running and screaming and some blood splattered walls. Apparently the veins in your wrists don't react well when sharp metal objects are inserted in them...who'd have guessed? My parents decided to end my "modeling" career right then and there.

I had my first "accident" in about 6 years. Exacto knife slipped and sliced my thumb, I jumped dropped the knife and instinctively reached out to catch it, slicing open my other thumb. Literally all thumbs.

You ever get super glue on your tongue and have a bottle of gorilla super glue explode in your hand and all over your
work desk and damaging the heck out of the model you were just working on?
Well its not pretty and ended in anger. You try having your 45$ metal gazzy ruined like that. The best way for a model to be
ruined is by a 10 year old child with their parents nearby. You get a nice sorry and a shining new model to boot.

I have a permanent scar in the palm of my hand. My superglue bottle had glued itself shut, so no problem I thought, I'll just cut the lid free. It came free a little sooner than I expected as I managed to drive my knife through the bottle to impale my hand.
One of those moments where you just look at the knife sticking out of your hand and wonder "should I pull this out now, or leave it in to stop the bleeding while I look for the gauze?"

Worst one I remember myself was putting a drill bit into my thumb. Just a little pin drill, not a dremel or nothing so it wasn't That bad.
Friend stabbed himself in the nose with a hobby knife though. Another case of just a minor thing, but still, In The Nose!

Oh my. Well, let's see. I'll start from most logical accident to stupidest...
-Scar on right thumb from trimming plastic off a FW. Knew as I was doing it that it wouldn't end well but threw caution to the wind :(
-Splinter off a brush my brother handed me (yes, we work with that bad shape materials)
-Cut the inside of my lip from one end to the other while trying to cut duct tape for another cut I got while modeling. I went to rip it with my teeth and when it ripped it fell and stuck to the inside of my lip. Not thinking I ripped it off and... well, that damn tape is STRONG
I also recall hearing how my uncle somehow managed to glue his nose shut while working on a plane.
Now-a days I keep a bandaid on my thumb when I am doing extensive cutting on models. let's me cut towards me without suffering injury

I once bisected myself saggitally in a freak gluing accident. Lucky for me I was able to get a replacement half from the Chinese black market.
Have a bit of a scar from it though.

Superglue in the eye. Ya know how sometimes the metal tabs on the bottom of the models are just the right size for the slotta-bases? Well, this particular one was a perfect size. So perfect that I probably didn't need to glue it at all. But, in my mission to have everything in my army securely fastened, I put some glue on the tab and pushed it into the base. With a hard click, the model was set in place and a splatter of Zap-A-Gap went everywhere. Even in my eye.
So, freaking out, I rushed to the bathroom and starting washing my eye out with warm water. I did this for about 15 minutes. When I was done, I felt a hardened bump on the inside of my eyelid. That's where the little droplet landed. It had already hardened and was already irritating me. So, I went to take a shower, washed out my eyes some more and then did a little research.
Turns out, if a foreign object is stuck to your eye (like superglue), your eye isolates the proteins surrounding that foreign object and sloughs them off. The recommendation online was to go to bed and in the morning, everything should be well. Well, I got in bed, closed my eyes (feeling the little superglue bump beneath my eyelids) and went to sleep. The next morning, the bump was gone and everything was back to normal.

This one time, When modeling space marines, i was sliding the mould lines off the legs with my blade (i'd just started 40k after a 5 year hiatus) I slide the blade towards my other index finger, went straight in to the tip and lodged the blade squarely in the fingernail.
"Ahh thats why i have fingernails!" was the proclamation afterwords as i watched the nail fill with blood.

Ahh where to start?
Well first off once when riding home after purchasing a figure sprue i decided to go ahead to check it out before getting home. Great idea so far right? yeah so i figured why not just slice it open with my new pocket knife. Big mistake. We hit a bump and the knife slipped through the plastic and stabbed right into my thumb. We were going to taco bell before we went home so you can probably imagine how distraute everyone was when i stabbed myself and we were gonna go to the doctor. Turns out taco bell napkins work better than stiches. And there food is way better.
I told myself i was done with knifes after that but what o you know next week i was peeling an apple and sliced my thumb again.
Also i have glued my hands to everything you can think of. i mean who doesnt get hungry when modeling. Yeah poptarts dont taste good with superglue and my fingers stuck to them.

I've glued my hands together a few times, and I've probably cut myself before but the "worst" (quotations because it wasn't all that bad) was when I stepped on a toothpick I was using for modelling and stabbed the middle of my foot. I was just like "...OW" and lifted my foot before I could completely come down. Damn thing was poking out, but wasn't very deeply in at all. I just grit my teeth and pulled it out.

apperently when a certain type of industrial strength super glue and gw glue come togather with a paper towl and a thumb it creates smoke and burning stuff. THAT hurts. also when a combat blade is soo sharp that when it comes out air is sucked in and blood creates a vacume seal it isnt a good idea to clean it with your fingers.
