I am not shure of this, so if anyone can tell me the page number to look at it will be appreciated. Ok I know Tyrainds Spore Mines deep strike before any units are placed on the table in your opponents zone. So after the Spore Mines have been deployed and it's your opponents turn to place his minis, how far does they have to be away from the Spore Mine.
Reading up on all the rules and codex for Tyranids, my head is a blur now.

do you mean for things like dawn of war's restrictions and infiltrate/scout? it's technically an enemy unit so you have to be the *fill in mission parameters distance here* away. you can't scout within 12" of them, infiltrate 18" if in LOS, or deploy within 18" of them in dawn of war missions. i take 3 squads of 3 spore mines each for that reason with my alienids. they don't count for mission objectives (KP, claiming/contesting) but deployment isn't a part of that.

So depending on the battle, the enemy can't be within 12" or 18"? Wow, no wunder the Spore Mines costs 10 points each. I didn't think it was that much. I thought it was the 1" rule, that seperated them.
So if you buy like 18 of them and cover up the whole are, and get good rolls, what will happen if your opponent can't put any of his minis in his deployment zone then? Are they destroyed?

not likely but possible. each unit is 3-6 each (sorry, mistyped above) and they use the deepstriking rules for initial placement. so, those 3 have to be in base to base in a tight circle just like regular deepstrikers until their movement phase at which point they individually roll for scatter. so, you can technically place 3 units of 3 spaced 15" away from each and 12" from the table edge in dawn of war to deny the enemy any non-infiltrating placement but you'd have to roll "hit" on the scatter every time. Automatically Appended Next Post: Klawz wrote:The rules don't cover what will happen.
um, yes they do. in dawn of war you MAY deploy up to 2 troops and an HQ, not must. you always have the option of leaving your whole army in reserve and if the spore mines deploy as i mentioned, you'd have to. the rules don't cover when it says you must and you can't.

I think you mean they individually roll for drift (d6), not scatter ( 2d6).

No they scatter as per normal orbital deployment rules ( 2d6). Then during their first movement phase they then drift (1d6).

technically, you're both correct but talking about related but different things. when i said *scatter* i meant drift (my booboo) since i was talking about the normal turn movement phase... but they do *scatter* 2d6 during their pregame deepstrike deployment.

Thank you guys for your explanation. I totally forgot if I had 6 Spore Mines they would DS together but if lucky enough and get 3 hits on the DS it is possible.
Thanks for the reminders and explanations everyone.

I really love that picture.
Of course the rules still don't cover what will happen. It required a ruling from a judge....and it still will as "the rules don't cover what happens".

It's an interesting use of spore mines. I do see a couple of problems that you might want to be prepared for.
-Friendly game, you opponent looks at you, says "fine you win", and plays someone else.
-Tournament game, your opponent asks a judge, and you possibly have to go with the ruling of your opponent ignoring any "can't place within 12" or 18" of the enemy" restrictions.
I'd rule the opponent just has to stay 1" away from you. He's taking his chances getting that close though, unless he's going first.

I don't think spore mines work normally with Dawn of War. Dawn of War says a player can deploy up to two units from his troops selections and up to one unit from his HQ selections. It does not allow for deploying any other models at the start of the game. Any models not deployed at the start (and not in normal reserves) will enter the game on the first turn as though arriving from reserves. The spore mine rules say "Spore Mine Clusters are always deployed in the following manner." So by following those early deep strike rules, you are deploying the clusters, something which you aren't allowed to do in Dawn of War. It all really comes down to how you interpret "always deployed in the following manner" is it "whenever you deploy them, you will always do it this way" or is it "regardless of the mission, you will always deploy them this way, potentially breaking standard deployment rules". I guess it could go either way, but a FAQ certainly wouldn't hurt, especially since if they can't use their early deep strike, they might be stuck trekking across the board with the rest of your force since they don't have access to the deep strike rules other than their own special version. I'm a bit torn here, Mines stuck drifting around near your own table edge are pretty useless, except for maybe drifting to close to your own unit and being blown up by the enemy. But on the other hand, being able to create 3 circles of 18" radius in your enemies deployment zone to prevent his HQ and Troops from being able to deploy well is pretty brutal too.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

it is brutal IF everything goes your way. IF every one of your scatter rolls is a hit or just a minor miss IF pointing towards the enemy. IF you roll the 1 in 3 chance of a dawn of war mission. plenty of people leave everything in reserve for DoW anyways so i don't see it as too brutal especially considering the odds of successfuly pulling it off. lascannons are only 15-35pts and can destroy 250pts worth of armor or characters IF all the rolls go your way, lol.

Yeah I genuinly stuffed that up sorry.
The rest of that quote thou is "must deep strike onto the board" Permissive rules and we are being told we're forced reguardless of DoW, codex trumping BRB again no?
Fairly cut and dried I'd say.
