Any one know of any gaming groups that frequent the games parlor in Chantilly northern VA? Specifically in the evening, (silly job taking up good playing time). My local group consists of only a handful of people and the same opponents get old!

I know they're probably additional drives but there's also
Eagle & Empire in Alexandria (FoW (WED); WHFB (THUR); 40k (FRI) - 7 pm start times ----weekends variable)
and
Game Vault in Fredericksburg (staying open especially late on weekend nights (till midnight and beyond sometimes on Saturdays).
Just throwing that out as an option.

That would give you about a 25-40 min drive to most of the stores... at least the ones i know of. Just met a few people in the IFL at the Games Parlor in Chantilly. Good group. If your still looking, Ironfistleague.com check it out.

I live in Arlington. I just moved here a few months ago and haven't been playing, but I'm looking to get back into it. There's another topic in this forum about NoVa gaming options, including a useful post by HuronBH listing some of the local clubs: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/265990.page

I live in MD in the MoCo area, and I have often thought about trying to go to NoVa for more gaming options, but my main concern is driving an hour through traffic for weeknight gaming only to show up on 'game' night to see no one there.
The internet seems very cryptic when it comes to showing pictures of the gaming space of these places and being able to give a reasonable estimate of average turnout.
But it also depends on how far these places really are because google maps does very little to tell due to traffic around the beltway. It may take over an hour to get to alexandria and I can be all the way to baltimore in 30 minutes it seems like.
I guess like the answer is to just show up at one of these game nights and see 'how it is' and judge if it is worth the drive or not.

Games Parlor Chantilly has a table minimum $2; assuming you aren't there on a tourney night, and aren't buying something in the store... you need to pony up. They have ~ 6 6x4/5x5 "spaces" (if they install the bridges joining tables). There are also a large number of regular tables typically reserved for Role Playing. There is NO terrain (bring your own). I've not been to GPW IIRC GW Fair Oaks has 2 tables. IIRC GW Springfield has 4 tables. I've not been to Eagle & Empire In Arlington The Compleat Strategist "has" a table... I've never been able to grab a game there though.

actually the complete stratigest has two tables that can be set up but it is cramped. I hear there is a new comic shop about a mile down the road from the strat that has a great gaming space anyone know the name? =

Finally got the name of the new place a bunch of people are going to start playing 40k at. Its called victory comics
586 S. Washington Street
Falls Church, VA 22046
Its right past elevation burger. Haven't been there yet going this weekend, but apparently a great space for gaming, although from what I understand we are going to need ot make a bunch of new terrain.
I think they are doing 40k on saturdays and maybe sundays not sure though.

Nice and local. If I make it by this week I'll report what I find. I've been working on some terrain; wouldn't mind chipping in and working on a collection for general use.

I am in the MD/VA area and would be willing to donate terrain. I have a crazy schedule (2 jobs, 3 kids, grad school) so don't get to play much, but schedule frees up a little in the summer and would be interested in getting together for a game or two.
On a different note, has anyone met people willing to host a game or is that a big no-no?

Like I said I haven't been there yet, but there are about 3 or 4 guys I know who are goign to start playing there regularly starting this week. They just got a new guy to handle the games section there I'll pass word on how it once it starts. Although I do envision a bunch of terrain making sessions as it is a new location.

I moved up here to the old town Alexandria area a few weeks ago, like a mile from the king street metro stop. Now i cant find any place within a reasonable distance for gaming, no car =/.
I do have an either 40k sized or apoc sized table (has an attachment to enlarge) with terrain to cover nearly 60% of it in apoc mode, high quality stuff my roommate had commissioned a long time ago but somehow survived years of storage.
Always looking for a local gaming club, though as i said without a car it would have to be within a few miles, or close to a metro stop. Hoping to find something soon, haven't played in almost a month now.

Victory Comics : Nice Shop, Lots of light, Blonde hardwood floors, several (8?) tables. No charge for use Give them a call to reserve. Minimal GW stock (mostly comics). Parking is difficult. There MAY be a shuttle from the EFC metro to the apartments behind the store... (not that I'm suggesting METRO-ACCESSIBLE GAMING is socially engineer able...) I don't know of any scheduled / league gaming yet. Automatically Appended Next Post: @ Kill dem stunties.
If you have a bike, you could figure out how to rig a sabol case with a pannier clip. IIRC Metro lets bikes ride free on weekends... I think GPC (and GWC and E&E) is ride able from Springfield Metro.
* note, My definition of ride-able distances and difficulties, and tolerance for playing in traffic is dramatically different from what most people would call "normal".

Somehow I missed this the first time around.
I'm one of the long-time IFL members, over 9 or so years IIRC. If you come out to one of the GPs on IFL open-gaming night, we've got terrain pretty much covered, especially down at Woodbridge. I'll have to see about getting some pics of the gaming areas and either post them to our forum (see sig for link) or to the GP website. If you are coming to an IFL game night, it's a good idea to hit our forum first. Lots of leagues, campaigns, etc going on, so if you just show up, everyone may be involved in a game. Woodbridge generally has 15-20 40K players show up on Tuesday night, while Chantilly is a bit more of a mix of both 40K and Fantasy. Fantasy is Mondy night down in WB........
Anyways, we're always looking for fresh meat. errrrr, new opponents, so check out the IFL forum and come on down.
As a side note, we try to post all area events to our calender, so if you're looking for tourneys and such, hit our Events section.

I just checked out "Dream Wizards" just north of D.C. on their miniatures gaming night (Thursdays). Unfortunately, all of the tables were taken and no one was playing fantasy.
I'm with nkelsch, it's hard to make a long drive through traffic on a weeknight without knowing if there will be an available opponent... I'll probably look up tournaments in NOVA / southern or western MD and make it to those.
I'll read through this thread more later to see if some of these stores are close enough... seems like most are on the other side of D.C., though... I'm in Columbia and work in Frederick...

Does Game Parlor still have the pay for play requirement?
If so, probably good that folks know that before they show up.
Edit: Okay I see this was already pointed out above. Still good for folks to get the memo, though

There's a pretty decent group in Frederick, IIRC they are based out of a Hobbytown there. Here's the link to one of their events (posted to the IFL forum, of course )
