I'm (very) slowly building up my ability to field a mech army, and I was wondering, for IG, what is the more versatile transport?

For example, what would you take for veterans?
I know that for PBS and CCS/PCS you take chimeras, what about for everything else?

And which is the preferred transport from the skimmers? Valkyrie or Vendetta?

it depends greatly on your troop loadout. Are you running 3 Melta vets? or Platoons?

If it is 3 melta vets you want Vendettas

You´ll have to ask yourself what style of IG army do you want. If you like tanks, don´t use Valks and if you´re aiming for 101 Airborne style don´t go for Basies. Unless you are going to compete in tournaments and that´s another can of worms.

For Valks/Vettas think who´s doing the AT job in your army and the role you want the skimmers to fulfill. Melta vets/Last turn objective grabbing get better mileage from the Valks being 30 pts cheaper as moving around won´t allow you to use the additional lascans of the Vettas. On the other hand Vettas like tank hunting but be aware that with only 12 AV they don´t like being hit.

Smith Jamison: We aren't here, which means when we open up on you and shred your bodies with automatic fire then this will never have happened.

I want to use Russes, but their AV 13-14 capabilities are limited, and I would also Like to run 2x melta 1x plasma vets. I'm thinking of running (future) 3 or 4 of the aforementioned vets.

And Miguelsan, what would you run in tourneys, that "other can of worms).

use both...chimeras are better for transporting more expensive infantry which you want to shoot with (such as vets), while with the skimmers I usually use cheaper units (example, flamer SWS, infantry squad, even platoon command squads) which gives the valk/vendetta the ability to claim objectives and fight, disembarking the infantry only as necessary.

In fact recently I have ditched veterans altogether, as special weapon /platoon command squads are so much cheaper than veterans. The PCS tend to ride the chimeras, while the SWS either ride the skimmer or borrow a chimera from an infantry squad in the same platoon.

They're both pretty good. It's a matter of preference as much as anything else. What you're trying to do with it is also pretty important. Plasma (or grenade launcher) vets are perfectly happy with a chimera bunker. Melta vets might want something faster even if it does mean they have to dismount and most likely die in short order. That said, I still keep my melta vets in chimeras because they blend together with the rest of my army better that way.

It does depend, yeah.

the FAATC skimmers are excelent for lightning raids (I.e; get in, get out or charge in and pulv.)

And the ATC was a powerful choice for it's other values.

I suggest Valks, personally, they look awesome.

Oklahoma City, Ok.

Chimeras give you ability to shoot while still inside, Vendy's don't. if you want to keep them alive a bit longer, probably the Chimeras.

Give you Melta Veterans Chimera dedicated transports and take Valkyrie Vendettas as well. This gives you options if you get first turn to load your Veterans in the Valkyrie Vendettas for scout moves and shots and first turn assaults with melta bombs to take out Land raiders or to stay in your Chimera and shoot out the back hatch if its an objective mission. Valkyrie Vendettas are excellent anti transport and monsterous creature so take them over Standard Valkyries since you have Hull Heavy Flamers and can take Manticores for antihorde.
