Hello Dakka,
I have recently come back to Warhammer 40,000 after a 4 year hiatus. My history with the game includes 5 different unfinished armies. This range from Catachan and Cadian IG to two Vanilla marine chapters and Space Wolves. All of these either died out after a squad or two. The most I had was my initial vanilla marine army, which I wish I still had pictures of, that I managed to get up to 1000pts (I believe). That was probably 6 or 7 years ago.
Now as I return to the game, I don't want to mess around. I am a huge WWII history buff, reading everything I can get my hands on. Naturally, Band of Brothers (HBO mini series) is one of my favorite WWII media. As such, I am making my current goal 1000pts of gloriously themed Easy Company of the 506th Airborne.
I will be converting each member of the army to include the classic American WWII helmet, combat fatigue jacket (this includes sculpting a new chest piece to remove the armor plating that exists on current Cadian models). I know that I will be removing armor from the models but considering the inpenatrable 5+ save my men have, I don't think WYSIWYG is going to bite me on that one.
Units will include a scattering of actual characters from the series like Winters, Nixon, Buck, Guarnere, Shifty Powers, etc.
I had an idea for objective markers too:
A case of Vat 69 - Nixon will personally lead the charge to find this one!
A wounded soldier, shot in the butt - an homage to the signature Easy Company injury. I was thinking of doing either Popeye or the other guy who gets hit in the butt when they take Foy (cant remember his name off the top of my head)
Or a Luger or some weapon that looks like it. As many of the men wanted them as souvenirs.
Once I have a little more progress I will be making a log in the projects, look for me there soon!
Winters out.
