Guard are as dominant in 40k as DoC are in WHFB. I'd be utterly unsurprised if this year's 40k tournament results are as much of a slaughter as Fantasy's.
All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).
SW, BT, Orks, and IG all vie for top spots at our tourneys...
IG can make very competitive lists, but they are no where near the level of DoC. SW, Tyranids, heck, even an easy-bake-oven SoB list can compete with IG.
The New nid codex is kinda brutal. But in all the RTT's ive played in we have eithier had SM or Daemons win it. Weve had IG come close but they still fall at points.
