Hi,

Just to give you a little background- I played 40k over ten years ago in third edition, and then got out of the hobby for a long time. Since getting back into the hobby a year and a half ago, I have owned 5 armies, in the following order:

Tyranids, Tau, High Elves, Lizardmen, Wood Elves

Each time I sold the previous army to fund the purchase of the new one, and each time I wasn't able to get going on the project or come anywhere close to finishing it. I finally purchased a fully painted army (the wood elves) so it can satisfy my gaming itch for the next several months while I work on this army. In that time, I plan to slowly purchase, build, and paint 2500 points of Beastmen. Rather than buying large lots (new or used) as I did before, I plan to slowly save and purchase this army one unit at a time, and finish each unit before moving on to the next. I have heard that this is the best way to approach building an army... but I stubbornly refused to listen before

So I have permission from the Misses for a $30 weekly budget, plus some start-up costs for supplies, and ocassional other expenses (primer, tournament fees, etc). I plan to purchase the army in the following order, one item per week:

EDIT: I already purchased 2 warlock engineers and an assassin, and have decided to go for skaven instead!!!

Supplies
Clanrats
3 Poisoned Wind Globadiers
Clanrats
3 Poisoned Wind Globadiers
Doomwheel
Clanrats
3 Poisoned Wind Globadiers
Clanrats
3 Poisoned Wind Globadiers
Doomwheel
Clanrats
3 Poisoned Wind Globadiers
Clanrats
3 Poisoned Wind Globadiers
6 Gutter Runners
Clanrats
Screaming Bell

So the entire army should be completed in 4-5 months time. If this goes well, I may try this process again, which would be very cool since it would mean I could construct 2 new armies each year . I think pacing myself like this will help me to stay on-target and get it done! And also not try to tackle more than I can handle at one time.

I'm also planning to purchase the models from my local Games Workshop where I'll be playing most of my games. I know this will mean I'll end up paying 20% more than I would have otherwise (which comes out to about $100) plus tax! However, to do the army piecemeal like this, I'd have to pay for shipping over and over to order it from somewhere. Also, I'd like to support my local gaming store (which I have never really done) and GW is the one I play at. There are several in the area, however I will probably use the one closest to me, which is also the smallest, where I have met a few regular fantasy gamers.

Wish me luck! I'll post here steadily to give myself motivation to keep going, and to show off what I've done

Good luck man! There's a lot of power in the motivation of the P&M blog; I cranked out my Tyranids in just over a month thanks to the impetus to post progress.

And thumbs up on the moderated approach, I've seen plenty of people stall-out hard once they get home with their armloads of spanking new boxes that look so awesome stacked up at the LGS, but become so unbelievably daunting once the realization sets in that they have no idea where to start!

I'll be watching, Godspeed!

Sounds good, I'm a 40k player myself but I'm very interested to see how this army is going to progress, who knows may even inspire me to pick up some WFB myself.

Thanks, guys . disdainful, that's EXACTLY what happened to me on a previous project! I think this way will help me go about it in manageable chunks.

Here's the list I'm going to run the whole thing as once it's finished! I worked it out first so I would know how to model everything, and also know what to buy. I also tried to make sure there would be no models left over... after all my hard work, I'll want to use everything

EDIT: I've decided to go for Skaven!!!

Grey Seer, Screaming Bell, Shadow Magnet Trinket, 2 Dispel Scrolls- 520
Assassin- 120
Warlock Engineer, Lvl 2, Death Globe- 125
Warlock Engineer, Lvl 2, Doomrocket- 130

29 Clanrats, Mus, Std, Shields, Doom-flayer- 197.5
29 Clanrats, Mus, Std, Shields, Doom-flayer- 197.5
30 Clanrats, Std, Shields, Doom-flayer- 198
20 Slaves- 40
20 Slaves- 40

6 Poisoned Wind Globadiers, Poisoned Wind Mortar- 125
6 Poisoned Wind Globadiers, Poisoned Wind Mortar- 125
6 Poisoned Wind Globadiers- 60
6 Gutter Runners- 72

Doomwheel- 150
Doomwheel- 150

Total- 2250

I'll be converting the weapons teams from the clanrat boxes (since I should have about a dozen rats leftover). I think this will be a fun list to play, but it's a lot of rats to paint! I'll definitely be posting here to keep myself motivated

Uh don't think the Gorebull can take the Axes of Khorgor as there 75pts might be in the llast book. You can also still give him armour which is generally a good idea.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Well, I've edited the above two posts of mine to reflect that I'm now going for Skaven instead! I'll keep you posted on my progress and put up some pics as soon I've gotten some traction
