Hi,
I am getting into to Warmachine and will be painting the Cygnar and PoM starter boxes in the near future. I have a pretty large investment in GW Citadel paints and would like to avoid purchasing P3 paints if possible. Just wanted to get a feeling of what people think about this? Have you you done it, and what were your results like? If you have pics you could share, I'd be interested in seeing them.
My idea would be to base-coat Cygnar with Mordian Blue and paint over with Enchanted Blue. I'm not terribly concerned about the gold and metal sections of 'Jacks. For Protectorate, I'm not sure that there's a good existing option. I was planning on trying Bleached Bone or a Skull White/Bleached Bone mixture. And for the Sanguine, I would base-coat with Mechrite Red and paint with Scab Red. Just some ideas, I haven't really tested anything yet.
Thanks! -Jamie

GW paints are the same colours as any other company but with different names.

You can usually find an exact equivalent in another range.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

i can't say this enough...
GW and P3 are not the same colours, for the most part...
they dry as very different tones...
colours like Sanguine Base, Coal Black, Greatcoat Grey, Trollblood Base, Skorne Red, and many others have no GW match...
the same goes for GW paints...
Scab Red and Red Gore, for example are two tones that P3 doesn't have...

some tones are equal, but many are not...
GW, Foundry, Coat De Arms, and Vallejo are more direct equals as far as colours go...

as for painting your Warmachine schemes with GW paints, you can do it with some custom mixing...
P3 paints came after we had been painting the studio minis with GW colours for a few years...
all of the early stuff was done with GW paints...

check the starter set pics in my gallery...
they were all painted for the PP studio using GW paint...

i don't have pics of the Cygnar group i did, but i remember using Regal Blue as a base, and Enchanted Blue for the highlights, plus a bit of Skull White in the mix...

for Menoth, the whites were definitely a mix of Bleached Bone and White, all the way up to pure Skull White...
the Sanguine is a mix of Dark Angels Green and Red Gore, to make a nice purple-red...

good luck...

cheers
jah

The answer to the OP's question is:

It doesn't matter. You don't have to paint one company's model with their paint and no other. Any model paint will do. For that matter you don't have to paint your Warjack's in the "Official" color scheme. Paint them however you like!

GW paints work very well, as do P3, Vallejo and Reaper. Use what you have, you don't need to change paints just because you've changed games.
