Starting from scratch. Looking for a cookie-cutter build to compete in a diverse metagame.
Considering multiple variations and point shuffling so I will just start with this as a template.
Have already done some research but I'm hoping I missed a few things or that some experienced 5th ed. Salamander players have some suggestions.
Thanks for the help!

Drop the Land Speeders and add melta guns onto each of the tac squads and give them Rhino's, then you can speed away using combat squads with the mm and melta gun in a Rhino w/ 3 other marines and melt some tanks whilst allowing your other 3 combat squads to capture objectives etc.

Well, its a typical Salamanders army.
I'd squeeze in a Librarian for psychic (hood) protection and nullzone.

I play a salamanders list and I would say use the LRR. You can buy a MM for it and it is still 250 pts. (Can you smell roasted power armor?) I kind of feel like that ironclad is out of place especially since it is the only drop pod in your list. This army is very similar to mine. It is basically a tank spearhead.

I'm not sure dropping staple fast attack units for a salamanders list is a good idea unless you're suggesting I switch over to bikes. I do understand the concepts of Rhino bunkers and combat squads.

I've definitely considered using a Librarian against certain armies, but I think I'd rather have the Ironclad against the majority of our meta (what I would take out for the Librarian) as it provides another significant, immediate threat (disruption), synergy with Vulkhan and a decoy from the LRC.

I've been really tight on points. As you can see I already stripped a Land speeder of its MM in order to fit the Ironclad + drop pod. Even if I used a LRR and made the meltagun in the the 3rd Tac squad a Flamer, I would still be 5 points short. The ironclad is definitely the most out of place unit in the army and would be the first thing to replace points-wise, but I think it's one of the best units to take after the core list is decided. It all comes down to whether I should invest more points on wargear and upgrades for existing units or if I want to bring more threats. In my experience, more threats has been marginally more successful and a lot more fun.

I'm not a big fan of the Vindicators in this list. I'm not sure what I'd replace them with, though.

Just a personal opinion about using the LRC. To me, you take the LRC for the extra carrying capacity. Like me, you are only running 5 termies.
If the the LRR lives long enough, you will love the AP3 flamestorms! Tank shock some marines, group them up, and fry em'!

Although I agree a LRR is better for him, I just had to add that I'd beware tank shocking marines in the current competitive game. They all have PF, Meltabombs, Meltaguns, etc these days.
That said, I pretty much agree with what was said above that the Ironclad may be a 'one-off' distraction and not strong enough to go with the list.
Dual vindis are great, but as above.. somehow in this list it just doesn't seem 'salamandarish' enough for me. As above... Not sure what I'd use except perhaps
Devastators / Razorbacks. I like heavily armed Razorbacks in Sally lists.

2x Vindicator -> 3x AC/HB Predator
Especially considering the amount of anti-tank you already have.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

That's a pretty good suggestion. Light transports and hordes definitely don't wanna see that.

Im not scared so much of a PF. Definitely do not want to go near some MB or meltaguns though.
I think the vindis add the OH CRAP effect. Basically the enemy will do everything they can to make sure that a nice demolisher shell does not hit their troops or vehicles. This is really nice as it keeps fire off of the LR and transports.
I will agree that 3 preds can put out a bunch of fire, but they just don't have the same mental effect that vindis give you.

I'd prefer the Preds but he really doesn't have the room for them.

I would only make one change to this list.
Drop the ironclad and replace with a regular dread w/mm/hf. Take the 20 points saved and make the third speeder mm/hf.
I prefer mm dreads for pods because you can deviate farther and still get 2d6 armor pen.
