Ok, there are a couple of guys at my FLGS who claim there is a GW FAQ that says something to the effect of "Dozer blade like gear, that lets you reroll terrain checks for vehicles, only works if you move six inches" as well as "Old codexes that have smoke wargear on vehicles that say 'any penetrating hits are downgraded to glancing hits' now this smoke confers cover saves to the vehicle like regular smoke does" I have also heard that some people applied it to stormshields.

Does this FAQ actually exist? Or are people pulling this out of their rear end?

It's the DA FAQ and the Main Rulebook FAQ iirc.

Essentially, it says "Where things contradict between the rulebook and Codex or between codexes, always use the version in your appropriate codex."

In other words, If you have the old Smoke Launchers that Downgrade Pens to Glances, then that is what you get, and no amount of "but the rulebook says this" can help you.

Like wise for Storm Shields, if you have the old ones, you use the old ones, end of discussion.

And with Dozer Blades, some of the older versions only work if you moved 6" or less. If thats what you codex says, that's what you use, an no amount of "but Codex: Ultramarines says this" can help you.

But those example you gave are completely 100% untrue.

Well, the smoke one is definitely bogus. Main rulebook says that old smoke rules work as written, ie pen to glance. I'd have to dig around re the dozer blade.

OP:
Bet them something tangible they can't produce said official current FAQs (if your examples are indeed representative of their claims).
???
Profit.

Yeah I misread the Question and answered the one in my head

But yeah, if they claim this "FAQ" ask them to show it, the Independently verify it by checking the GW website for it.

And if they act all hurt and claim "Oh, you think I am lying do you?" simply Say "Yes", because they are!

No. Use the wargear in the codex.

The FAQ they are referring to says that both players need to agree to use the 'updated' wargear. It's essentially a house rule. You are completely within your rights to ask them to use the wargear as printed in their codex.

lol, I also looked at the FAQs a bit, it turns out that you are right, however, the Daemonhunters FAQ did not change the smoke, but it does give their land raiders PotMS, so there is that.

Next time someone mentiones an FAQ, I'll ask them to show me. Thanks for clearing this up guys!
