I just saw the miniature game Uncharted Seas for the first time today. Anyone have any experience with it?

I've played it 3 times (I have Human Imperials --- starter fleet games only). It's a very nice game and has decent mechanics. After the first game or two, make sure to put some islands up so you have some terrain to deal with/work with. Starter fleets are reasonably priced.

Only problem I have locally is game intertia. If it ain't 40k, WHFB or Flames of War, hang it up. I tried to get US started playing at the LGS and people actually bought fleets and painted them up. Two whole games were played (me and another guy played each other twice). Lots of fleets sold. Nobody plays. It's jokingly called Unplayed Seas.

If you can find somebody to play against, it's a nice game. I recommend getting the rulebook and using the cut-out Dwarf and Orc fleets included (I think you can even download and print them off from Spartan's website) and trying the game a bit that way first. Then, if you like it and/or can get folks to play, you can make the plunge into the models.

we have a great group here playing US, its a really fun game and the company (Spartan Games) updates the rules frequently and is still releasing lots of new models.

as privateer said, the mechanics are easy so its a pretty relaxing game to play too....until your battleship gets double 1 critted

Any other thoughts out there? I have a pair of Firestorm Armada fleets (Terran & Sorylian) and I love the game. I have a friend who is interested more in age of sail type stuff than spaceships, so I thought I'd give US a shot.

Mostly, on my phone.

It's an excellent game (u/s that is)! It's about being fast and flowing rather than nit-picking exact replicas of sail mechanics. The fleets are very varied and the models tasty. Releases can be a little erratic but that seems to be picking up. I play iron dwarves because, resin = 2/3 price of other fleets; shroud mages (chaos dwarves-ish) are similar). The fleets have very different play styles, but sort of conform to Man O' War types. Fleet construction is pretty intuitive too. Best bet is download and print Orc and Dwarf fleets, work from there. Humans, btw, are terrifying, very fast indeed. Orcs likewise - but, both are dependant on wind direction, whereas others aren't, so it kinda balances. Undead - bone griffons - very, very odd, quite counterintuitive to play. Both dwarves shooty and tough, iron stronger but no magic. Elves have dragons and more magic than you can shake a knobbly stick at. Hope that helps!

Are there any reviews floating around on dakka? Maybe something with faction overviews as well?

I could probably write one if folk would like...

I'd be all for it, and I'd link it from my local gaming forums as well.

Fun system! Very "beer & pretzel'y" as IMHO it's not as involved as FoW, WHFB, WH40k or Warmachine is. It's initiative driven, with shooting governed by a range band mechanic and boarding actions becoming brutal and final. The rules "evolve" as Spartan Games releases different aspects to the game such as flyers and submersibles, though the core rules stay intact.

Here's a tourney-winning formation of my Orcs..."The Broken Teefs" on parade after the event...

Very good game indeed. Been playing a lot lately and it's really hooked me and a few mates (including non gamers). Rules are very straightforward but yet there's good differentiation between the fleets.

And better yet, my whole Shroud Mages fleet cost me less than a Chaos Defiler.

I just ordered the rule book and a Iron Dwarves and Shroud Mages starter fleet, which should hopefully get here in the next couple days. I will give my updated thoughts on it gets here and I have given the rules a read through.

Well I have a slight update apparently the Iron Dwarves and Shroud Mages starter fleet is on back order for 2 or 3 weeks so I will have to do without those for a while but my rulebook is on the way. A small plug for CCG Armory they have some speedy and great customer service.

After trying my hand at FSA, I'll definitely be getting into US. I'm thinking either Bone Griffons or Elves. Not sure which I'll go with yet.
