Guys, my Fists look horibble. They've been painted, if at all, with just basic colours; i.e. regal blue for armour end of.

My painting abilities are FAR past that! I can do highlights, layering and other stuff... But IDK what to do that works for me...

From now on I'll be starting of with Necron Abyss over chaos black, but then what? I don't need anything for eyes, metal area's, black area's or anything, just the plain blue after the Abyss. What should that be? Regal is just too light! I want a dark tone that still seperates itself from black, and can be highlighted. All that with minimal mixing would be optimal.

Thanks,

DVG

Try going with the foundation paint Mordian Blue, with an ultramarines highlight. I think if you posted some pictures, it might help.

If you want the deep dark blue as seen on the art, then i do mine with mordian blue, and then 2 thin washes of babab black, making sure pooling doesnt occur. Then highlight with a 2/1 mixture of mordian / enchanted blue, and then 2/1 mordian / codex gray, hope it helps!

Thanks, guys! But personally, Abyss is more or less the right colour for me. Now that I think about it, I might try highlighting with Mordian blue.

If your using Abyss as a base colour, then i would definatly say use mordian as a highlight! How are you doing your reds btw? I do mine with the foundation red, washed with babab, re highlighted, then small amount of blood red highlight, hope i am being helpful btw!:p

I have yet to dabble with washes! But I'll try it out in a sec.. I do my reds as follows: Mechright red foundation, layer of blood red and highlighted with blazing orange - beautiful colour!

BTW, do you play fists as well??? Sweet! (if true)

Ooh. Definitely get some washes. they're a ton of fun, as well as ezmode for adding depth and shadow.

I intend to - but I can't buy any - I'm saving up for all those goodies in the form of the CF bitz packs, and enough of them for the insane amount of new models I'm going to buy to paint them as.. .well that's the point of this topic... so that I can have a good looking army, I don't want my old models dragging it down on looks. Oye, Commander, what would you say the most important washes are? Badab black for a start...

I'd say for the Fists, you should be good with Asurmen Blue and Baal Red. You could probably even do without the red if you're satisfied with your left hands already. Badab Black in a universally good idea. Ogryn Flesh is awesome for painting skins, and one pot will last you a whole chapter, provided you don't plan to make the Shiny Bald Head Brigade, or have OVER 9000 scouts. Gryphone Sepia looks really nice for doing the various purity seals and other bits of parchment so prevalent on Space Marines.

Aye washes are your friends! And am currently building my fists at the minute! Have 1 month till a tournament, and only have 1 model for the army, so this is going to be interesting to get it all done! But i would be glad to see some pictures of your fists!

Lol good luck then! That tourny and any preparation you make for it deserves a thread of it's own... but then again time writing it is time you could be paining o.O

For my Crimson Fists, I paint their armor Regal Blue, and highlight with Ultramarines Blue. The black areas (boltguns, etc.) are just Chaos Black with a Codex Grey highlight. For the actual fists, I paint the area white, then Red Gore, then a Badab Black wash. Sometimes I highlight it with Blood Red too. Eyes are just Red Gore with white dots in the corners. It's not a very complex scheme and it looks good.

Well, I mean as in the 2dness, I mean yes, I friggen love it! But some models, not counting paint scheme, just make it look sad :( But it's still great! That model just makes 'fists look so good! Might have to try it! Infact I will! That's enough of the excessive exclamation marks...

EDIT: MUNCH! Where'd you get the 40k clickies??? NEVERMIND! Got meself one already

I would stick with regal blue, and use ogryn flesh over it. IT keeps the bright blue on the extremeties, and gives a darker slight purple tinge in the recesses. Looks nice but also has a different look to your standard blues you see around.

I do my Crimson Fists with a Necron Abyss base, then a blue wash, then a very light highlight with enchanted blue.

The red i do with Mechrite Red, red wash, then blood red.

Okay guys, I got some damned homework to do tomorrow.. but after that I'm gonna go buy me a new Tactical squad! I intend to try two schemes out:
Brother SRM's Regal blue highlighted with Ultramarines blue
Mine and Firstborn's Necron Abyss highlighted with Mordian blue

The latter has worked fairly well so far on Pedro! So I'll probably stick with that, because it's darker. Thank you to everyone who has contributed, I shall start a new thread elsewhere as a CF Project Log, with piccies!
