I have no idea what to make for a 1500 point army I will list everything I have.

HQ
Commander (with lightning claw and storm bolter)
Jump Chaplain

Elites
Terminators (5 one with assault cannon)
(possible veteran squad if i use my Games Days 2005 veteran)
Dreadnought

Troops
2 Tactical Squads (10 each with a missile and flamer)

Fast attack
2 5 man Assault Squads
Tornado Land speeder with assault cannon

Heavy
5 Devastator (one Heavy Bolter 2 Lascannons 2 Plasma Cannons)
Whirlwind

oh ya I also have Shrike
Is this even enough to make a 1500 point squad and I dont have the new codex so im not sure how many points they are (mines in the mail commin sometime next week).
Thanks

You'll be in that neighborhood, for sure.

Your list lacks synergy. Who's the commander going to be attached to? I'd say give him Terminator armor, and have him chill with the other Terminators.

Also, combine the 2 Assault squads into one. You'll get more rerolls with the Chaplain attached, and it'll overall be a more survivable unit. Also, give them some flamers, and give the sergent some upgrades.

Also, you should give your tac Squads some transport. Rhinos, or something.

My troll radar is going off...

You somehow picked every bad unit in the codex and tried to put it in a single list.

Actually, that Landspeeder is quite good if you get it in multiples.

No, he didn't use Vanguard Veterans. Those are the worst.

I don't suspect trolling. Peach mentions that he doesn;t have the codex yet. I think he's doing the best he can without it.

One thing that I suggest is to make a mobile list. Your troops will need transports.

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

Whatever you do, you're going to want to get another troop choice or file off the claws of your captain, say it's a powerfist, call him kantor, and pretend that your veterans are sternguard.

Going into a 1500-1850 point game with only 2 troop choices/scoring unit is too risky for my tastes.

Devastators really aren't that great so I'd drop them. Dreads on foot are terrible unless you're spamming them or have them in the back going all hellfire on everyone.

Regular terminators aren't that good. They want to assault and shoot at the same time but can do neither too well, the only good thing about them is their assault cannon, but it's not worth the points imho.

If you want to go with assault squads, then as already said, get another one, but that doesn't seem to be the direction your army is going so I'd say shelf 'em.

The good/bad thing about your army collection is that it's so unfocused that with a few purchases, you can start to build off of your foundation and start dedicating yourself to one type of army list.

Okay, what kind of army inspires you the most?

We have basically a few builds here.

Tank (Lots of tanks, but focuses on the firepower of the tanks themselves rather than the infantry inside of them

Mechanized infantry (Like a tank army but focuses more on the infantry that are being transported than the tanks themselves. )

Fast assault infantry (Shrike Leads a bunch of assault termies and assault infantry, kind of like an alpha strike army)

meduim range gunline (Kantor and sternguard sit on objectives and fire lots of bullets and pray that nothign survives)

Alpha strike (1st turn and second turn assault army)

Teleportation/Fire support (teleports around the field supported by bikers to concentrate lots of fire on a few important targets)

Pyromaniac infantry (seriously, these guys are scary. Flamers and meltas galore, and TH... don't forget the THs)

Dread spam (I'm not sure if this is viable anymore, but it could be nasty if it still is...)

Biker spam: Lots of.... you guessed it, bikers. A very mobile army that can also focus lots of firepower on a few key targets. Known for it's over the top command squads.

there may be more, and I am more than likely wrong about several of these, but these are some of the more common builds that I am aware of

I don't actually know how to make a really good medium range gunline type army, they're also known as counter assault armies iirc.

if you want to go mech infantry then you'll want to get at least one landraider, prolly 2 as well as transports for all of your squads.

I would disagree with the statement that devastators are not good. The thing with devastators is that they should be concentrated. I do not like mixing up weapons, but when I do its 2 rockets, 2 lascannons. I think that devastators work pretty well and can be more survivable than tanks. However, if you play mechanized then devastators should not be in that list.

You can think all day that they can be more survivable thank tanks, but they are not.

@OP:

You want to focus on mechanized marines, either rhinos or razorbacks. You can grow it from there in many ways (bikes, landspeeders, tanks, terminators, etc.)

Another one that you should think about is if you want to make a bikes list, start now.

no bikes no landspeeders OP dont bother. You want tanks a Landraider a few predators and 3-4 rhinos for your squads. dont waste your money or time on shooty terminators go with the assault with possibly a chaplain and let them ride in the land raider.

Marines are all about striking hard fast now. No more static gunlines

Obviously if kept out in the open they are not, but when put up in a ruin they can be very survivable. All a tank needs is one good melta shot and its gone. However for my list I do not use devs as they do not fit into my list.
