I'd say add the cupped hand on the slann, diadem and dispel scroll on skink, drop a unit of saurus, pump others to 18(6x3)
add terradons if you have em.

The slann's ward save means little if he's hiding in the temple guard, and that item is more for solo slann.

A decent start. Saurus armies are rock hard. A few minor changes are needed to max this baby out!

L: Slann - Two Disciples (Full Lore, Discard 6s), Cupped Hands, BSB (395)
H: Priest - Magic level, Diadem of Power, Scroll, EotG (440)

C: 18 Saurus - Spears, Full Command (246)
C: 18 Saurus - Spears, Full Command (246)
C: 10 Skink Skirmishers (70)
C: 10 Skink Skirmishers (70)

S: 20 Temple Guard - Full Command (355)
S: 5 CoC (175)

I changed the Slann a bit, the Divine Protection discipline is useless when he is in TG. With Becalming Cogitation you have some have a sick way to hurt enemy magic. Other options are: Focused Rumination, for a free die per cast, or Unfathomable Presence, for MR(3). The Cupped Hands of the Old Ones is a must for a Slann, you REALLY cannot risk a miscast on your almost-400-point-unit! It's really going to help, especially since Sould of Stone isn't on him. Also made him the BSB, a more or less mandatory upgrade.

Kitted out the Priest a bit more making him anti-magic, which you will want.

Your Saurus units are a oddly sized. eighteen is an optimum number for spears. With a full command you get some SCR and the champs attack give the unit a solid twenty-five attacks. Theses guys are all about killing. The HW Saurus are nice, but you can do without, especially since you have a nice fat unit of TG who will be using HW. Honestly, I don't think you will need them.

Gave the TG a Reverend Guardian to take challenges and give another attack. While I love units of twenty of these guys. Sixteen would do fine but hey, why not smash the enemy even more! The CoC could use a musician but oh well, a hammer is a hammer.

I would also add that NO army should be at 1987 points. You have room for at least one more skink and a champion skink in there.

I would go so far as to say that for competitive play, characters and core choices are pretty cookie cutter these days.

I don't know of anyone using rank and file skinks at all let alone with kroxigors in them. Even swarm bases are rarely seen.

Special and Rare slots are really where your customization will come in. Some people like Kroxigors(I find them a waste versus terradons since they are only S6) and some people swear by COC. I myself only use terradons and temple guard. Some people like to run multiple stegadons even.

Rare choices are of course more restricted, but deciding which ones to take can also be a game changer. I personally run 2 salamanders and 2 razordons at 2250. In smaller games I only use razordons.

Rank and File Skinks are useless without Kroxigor in them. Skrok units are fantastic. I use them fairly regularly. They are a decent unit. Granted, a solid unit of four Kroxigor is better but Skrok have a place, especially in lower points.

Kroxigor have really took a hit in the new book not being base S5. It sadly means the Lizardmen don't have any decent S7... The Carnosaur and heroes with GW are there but builds like that are less used because there are much better kit-builds. Personally, I wouldn't SWEAR by CoC but they are one of the best hammers that Lizardmen have.

Salamanders and Razordons fill different roles in the army list. Razordons are pretty much for murdering low Sv blocks and holding flanks; while Salamanders are for high Sv, elite units. What to take really depends on what the enemy has. Having used Razordons for a long time, I find that Skink Skirmishers do what they do just as well.

yeah didn't see these comments till after the game, but I need to make the SW units bigger for sure, my opponent was lizardmen. . . his 20 SW units overpowered my 16 SW ones

I like the HW SW, as well as the TG, as my anvil while I use the other units as hammers

I should have given the slann the BSB for sure,

Ah well, If you want to use a HW Saurus blocks as hammers... try this:

L: Slann - Two Disciples (Full Lore, Discard 6s), Cupped Hands, BSB (395)
H: Priest - Magic level, Diadem of Power, Scroll, EotG (440)

C: 21 Saurus - Spears, Full Command (270)
C: 12 Saurus - Musician (138)
C: 12 Saurus - Musician (138)
C: 10 Skink Skirmishers (70)
C: 10 Skink Skirmishers (70)

S: 16 Temple Guard - Full Command, BBoC (295)
S: 5 CoC - Musician (185)

Fat spear unit now can dish out twenty-nine attacks in most -block-to-block cases. Two Saurus hammers are in, twelve attacks on a flank is going to suck (less that CoC but cheaper)! TG go down to sixteen but that shouldn't hurt in the long run. TG Guardian also gets BBoC to kill other champs and such a bit easier. CoC get a musician.

Another alternative would be to keep the spears at eighteen, drop the TG to sixteen and take a third Slann discipline.
