Excuse the silly question, but what is the difference between :

Citadel Battlemat

and

Citadel Lightweight Battlemat

One of them is cheaper and currently N/A, that's all the difference I can spot and I have to admit - I am so bloody confused right now since the e-store I usually buy in offers the light version only and I wanted to know if it's the same as the regular battlemat (fabric based, etc.) or what...

Since the lightweight one is N/A in the GW shop, I assume that's the old, crappy grassmat...

I dont think there is any diffrence in the two. They just changed the name and upped the price.

I'm fairly sure it's different fabrics. But either way battlemats are just too weird for me to want to buy.

They're both the same things.

So the £14.70 Citadel Lightweight Battlemat is just a regular £18.00 Citadel Battlemat (which itself is a grassmat, like Noch or Heki, just glued to a piece of fabric for durability, if I'm not mistaken)simply renamed and on a bit thinner fabric?

Correct me if I'm wrong in any part of this sentence.

Cheers.

The lighter one is not just a paper-backed mat glued to fabric.

It uses a thinner fabric with a similar texture. The heavier one uses a heavier gauge fabric, closer to felt in thickness.

There is a history behind this.
First the "Lightweight" version was released as the first non-paper grass mat (cloth backing) from GW. There were some quality issues with it so GW stopped selling those. After a pause of several months, a revised mat with cloth backing was silently released. This is the one now available, the other one is the OOP predecessor.

Edit: Seems like both are difficult to order online. My local store can still get them though.

Yeah that was exactly what I thought, but check this out :

Essentially the difference between the normal Battlemat and the Lightweight Battlemat is that the standard one is made of cloth whilst the Lightweight one is made of thick paper which is less durable than the standard Battlemat.

So I guess that both versions of cloth-baked grassmats were called Citadel Battlemat, while Lightweight was the name for the paper one.
That or Rich was high.

Having bought both, the lightweight one is only suitable for mounting to a sheet of MDF and using that way. It will easily crease and rip. The Battlemat though is just awesome.
