I think you can run the vows in two different ways. The most obvious one is Accept any Challenge. In this configuration either run the champion as your only HQ choice, or run a marshall, likely with retinue. If he has a retinue, don't bother buying him an Iron Halo, just use the retinue to take the deadly hits for him.
The other way you can run vows is to use Suffer not the Unclean, +1S, -1I. To offset not rerolling to hit take a pair of chaplains to lead your templars. Now you're getting the benefits of rerolls to hit AND wounding 16% more frequently, and your powerfists can attempt to take on walkers.
The other two vows are pretty miserable, and despite being cheap, the Emperor's Champion is a VERY expensive 90 points, and with vows goes up to 140. These points, even the bare bones 100 point abhor the witch, are very poorly spent unless you are taking advantage of your vows, so I strongly suggest against going with the other two vows
