Do Centigors get both the mounted and on foot benefits of spears?
Since they count as mounted models, but they are on foot.
Maybe I am missing something but it doesn't look like it says its one or the other. And each benefit is independent of the other.

In the new book they are cav. They get the cav benefits of spears.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

You almost NEVER base rules on model representation like this. If it is on a cavalry base it follows cavalry rules.

Not necessarily true, warhounds for example aren't US 2. Flesh Hounds don't have +1 armor save for being mounted. Some cav based models are in fact infantry of an odd shape.
That aside, the Centigaurs entry states that they are considered cav, and unless I misrecall goes on to state that they take their bonuses as cav.

How aren't Warhound US 2? The 7th ed rulebook's definition of cav includes 4-leggers on cav bases, IIRC.

Flesh hounds are US2, youre definitely not right on this. They dont get +1 AS because they arent actually mounts....unless you can spot a little guy riding them?
The new centigaurs ONLY get the mounted benefits of spears, as they count as normal mounted cavalry.

I don't understand why they can't be both. Is there a restriction some where that says cavalry can't also be considered to be on foot? The 2 spear entries are mutually exclusive. Nothing specifically prohibits you from getting the advantage of both. And even though centigors are considered cavalry, they are still technically on foot. And I know it sounds kinda weird because there is nothing that works like this currently. But that doesn't necessarily mean it can't work.

Last time it was a quote from page 6, and today from page 7. People need to start reading the fething rules for this game already.
"The term cavalry refers to riders mounted on horse sized creatures that have only 1 wound in their profile, mounted on a 25mm by 50mm 'cavalry' base. It also refers to other FOUR LEGGED creatures, such as warhounds, wolves, etc, that have 1 wound in their profile and are mounted on a cavalry base."
Wolves are technically on foot as you say and yet are clearly cavalry.

Because tehy are only ever considered cavalry, both in the rules for them and by their model? And that nothing in the cavalry rules allows you to be mounted and on foot at the same time? permisive ruleset. Nasically to use the "mounted" profile you are excluding yourself from being considered "on foot" EVER.
THat is what stops them being both. Odd that, rules determining something for definite....
