Hi guys,

After completing my Space Wolf army, and almost done with my Nids, ive been pondering about my third army.

Well, after taking a pounding from a Guard army on Sunday ( it wasnt a total ass-kicking, once my Wolf Lord got into combot, and his scatter shots scattered back onto his own troops LOL ), ive decided on Guard.

However, i do not like any of he traditionalstore releases, so i looked back to Forgeworld, and found the Death Korps of Krieg.

Now, ive never read a Guard dex, or played with resin before, so i was wondering if any of you knowledgable chaps could give me advice on the DKOK army, and resin in general. Are forgeworld a fast company to deal with, should i be worried about shopping with them? Are the castings as god as they look in person?

Any and all adviceis welcome and appreciated!

Cheers guys!

Forgeworld can be very slow (4 weeks plus) but have been much better lately.

The newer stuff (especially DkoK infantry) is mostly excellent but some of the older stuff is a lot of work to get right, especially the very large models.

Do be aware that resin parts require a fair bit more prep work than plastic parts, however lots of the FW stuff is much nicer than the standard models.

If you're entirely new to guard I'd definately proxy a list for some games before ordering - the DKoK infantry is very expensive, especially the heavy weapon teams!

Hi Scott, thanks for your reply!

Ive decided to pick up the Guard Dex and the Siege of Vrax set tomorrow, as i understand the DKOK army list is in there.

Looking at FW's site, ive got some idea of what models i want in my army, i just need to see how they differ from normal guard.

Im loving the artillery guns, DKOK seem to be Mortar heavy, and weapon platform heavy too, so im guessing ill be getting plenty of those!

Do you have any recommendations?

I would strongly recommend thinking very carefully about going with a DKoK list. There's lots of stuff in there that has no real equivalent in the IG codex so if you're ever playing somewhere that doesn't allow Imperial Armour lists then you're out of luck. Also, IA units and lists tend to be significantly underpowered.

I would suggest building a solid list from the IG codex (using the DKoK minis if you like them) and then adding toys that you like from the the DKoK list.

If you want to chat about army list specifics then drop me a PM - how competitive an army are you looking to build?

Well i guess im safe with this for now, as my store manager and full timer have said that i can use the army in store if i go ahead with this. The only other places i play is in my conservatory, or soon to be gaming club ( which im a part of running, so i think i can sneak the army in lol ).

Im not a competative player, unless i need to be, i mostly play for fun ( i have more fenrisian wolves in my Wolf army than marines lol ).

Are you a guard or DKOK player yourself then?

As i said, ill pick up those books tomorrow and have a flick through on lunch.

I'll drop you a pm tomorrow night for any other assistance you can offer!

I have a variety of armies, including guard, although not DKoK.

I'll pull out my Vraks books for a re-read of the army lists and see if anything jumps out at me.

A plus side to getting DKOK troop is , despite them been resin , the pieces are so s mall that they normally dont warp or bend , or dont need pinning.
