Hello all.

Around november last year I caught wind of a new miniatures company called Mantic games. I had heard they had some cool looking elves and where working on creating some undead. My interest peaked, I flexed my powerfull google-fu and came up with Mantic's website:

http://www.manticgames.com/Home.html

Thus I spent a good two and a half hours searching through the nooks and crannies of thier site map, registering for a customer account, and generally jaw-dropping my way through the pictures. In short, the usual routine.

The Mantic elves are exactly how I envision the pointy eared race: slim, lithe, and yet subtley strong. Knowing that my birthday was approaching I engaged in some subtle manipulation of my parents. Not knowing exactly what I wanted I recieved a wad of cash which I promptly stored in the bank. I then used some funds from other family members (my uncle and aunt to be exact) to purchase a Mantic games messenger bag with free spearmen command troop (10 elves with command trio).

After an anxious week and a half, the bag arrived. Contained within was my troop of elves. Foaming at the mouth I broke open the box (well... more like reverently pried open, but I digress)

Contained within were my miniatures, a sprue of Mantic bases, a small pamphlet, and a "mantic points card"

After sorting out the sprues, putting the Mantic Points stickers on the card, and having a look at all the pretty bitz, I went to work. The result was this:

My first impressions post paintjob are as follows:

- Nicely detailed for the price
- Fun to paint up, and I can see merit to the enjoyment with painting a full armies worth
- The packaging is wonderfull. Hard plastic cases that are just the right size.
- Bag is a nice feeling canvas material, with roomy pockets for dice and other aids, whilist having a divider for rulebooks on one side and model cases on the other

Overall a good showing. while talking with a friend via messenger I was asked for a scale shot. I figured you all might want to see it, so here it is:

Since finishing the first elves I was hooked and ordered a seaguard box (bowman command and spearmen troop) and a bolt thrower battery. Due to a slight casting error I contacted Mantic for a replacment and recieved both it and a whole new battery, all of which I am painting up.

During the days spent waiting for the replacment part it dawned on me that there was no mantic fan-forum. Taking the initiative, I created the Chamber of Kings, which was recently recognised by Mantic in thier newsletter. For my efforts I unexpectedly and suprisingly recieved a full regiment of the new Mantic undead skeleton warriors. As of today I have started painting them (and as such and update will be forthcoming)

Happy with my Mantic experience I decided to start this blog to document my progress. If you have any comments of questions feel free to post. I will try to update as regularly as I can although school, family, and my painting backlog demand alot of my time.

Like the undead, great job! You need to work a bit on their shields and on the metal bits in general. Have you considered undercoating them black and then drybrushing them with the metallics you want?

why the metal bitz? The shields are painted white, so they match the shields of the rest of my force.

black would be counter productive to the way I paint bone for this scheme.
