So the Vendetta is easy, lots of Lascannons and go to town. But what about the Valkyrie? Its standard loadout seems kinda weird since the S8 missiles plus Multi-Laser doesn't seem like a good match up for anything really.

This leaves either the expensive Rocket pods (which look cool) or the cheaper Heavy Bolters. Thoughts?

rocket pods all the way! H bolters if i have the points.
and if the Hellstrikes had be Str 8, 1 shot Blast, maybe. but with no blast, it's just a bigger Krak missle.

If you want a valk, Rocket pods are the way to go. However, this brings up their cost to 130, the same as a vendetta.

For 140, though, you get a multi-laser, 2 heavy bolters, and 2 rocket pods...that chews up infantry like there's no tomorrow.

I thought Hellstrikes were good, because I had heard somewhere that they were large blast (I heard all ordnance counts as large blast), then I read the official FAQ...they're krak missiles. That have one shot. So you pretty much need rocket pods.

And for the same 140 you get 3 TLLC and 2 HB. Still chews up infantry and murders MCs and Vehicles like there's no tomorrow. Doesn't seem like a contest to me, but if you insist on Valks, Rocket Pods is the only route. HBs on a Valk are a toss up really, the rocket pods are pretty short range and can be fired while moving over 6" in addition to the ML, but the HBs cannot. Still it's only 10 pts.

As an addendum, Hellstrikes are ordinance just not blast, so they roll 2D6 take the highest for armor pen, but you can't fire any other weapons when you use one and they're once per game. If you want to hunt tanks, no Valk build comes into the same zip code as a Vendetta.

Sounds like Rocket Pods are the way to go, which is good anyway since they look badass to me.

Tactically, whats the best way to use them. My gut instinct is to pair them with Vendettas (not in the same squadron though). Vendetta opens up a transport and Valkyrie pummels the occupants.

To this point, is it a waste to use them just as gunships and not as transports?

my mate has the same problem; all ordnance BLAST use the large blast unless otherwise stated.

The Rocket pods are nice because its two Large pie plates and you can move 12" fire both and a multi-laser.......
