It's our 50th show... what are we going to do this time? Same thing we do every time.
Up first: Russ and Raef take advantage of Craig being out of the studio briefly to discuss their 'tech lairs'. How are their electronics set up in their homes? Where do they game? What systems do they use? Listeners have been asking, and now we reveal all.
Later, Craig shows up and we decide we better talk about games again. This time it's a full review of Malifaux from Wyrd miniatures. Join us as we travel into the strange world of this unique skirmish game.
All that and our usual 'not too horrible' humor, with features such as:
•The Hollywood Minute
•Rapid Fire
•What's in the News
•Total Fan Girl
•The Score
•The Inside Scoop
•& More
Please let us know what you think!

I really enjoyed the review, Russ, and I found Raef's view on the game and fluff very interesting.
The story overview at the very end was excellent!

Thanks, Redstripe! Coming from the fluff, that means a lot! I was afraid that segment ran too long, but there is SO MUCH STUFF!
To quote Owen: Love It I Do. Even if Russ DID kick my ass three times in a row tonight at Malifaux . . . even in the game where we traded crews . . .

Tomorrow is going to be a better day at work, knowing that I have a show to look forward to. It had better be at LEAST 4 hours long!
Hey Craig, I asked this in the previous thread, but it seems to have died; do you think it would be worthwhile to paint the ships that come in the BSG games? I've never done anything like Gothic or Firestorm Armada, so I don't know how they compare scale-wise. Are they too small for it to make a difference, or if I follow the guidelines for painting something like FSA do you think it would work and be worth the effort? Thanks!
P.S. The show seems to have returned in full-strength. It seemed to lose a littel steam (it was still good) towards the end of the year, which is understandable, with the holidays, but the last couple episodes have been fantastic, with good interviews and crunchy segments. I'm looking forward to more. Thanks guys.

That review really makes me want to check out Malifaux, but getting people in my area to try out new minis games is like pulling teeth. There is a very small WM crowd, and a big 40k crowd, but outside of those not a lot of interest, it seems.

Haven't finished listening to the review yet, but I'm enjoying it. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt their brain pop when trying to get to grips with all the special rules on the cards! As with Russ, I concentrated on understanding one single function and getting that to work instead of worrying about making everything work first time.
So far I've played only once, but I enjoyed it and want to give it more goes.

Great show guys as always. I guess I'm an add duck, I also work at a computer all day, but I hate gaming from the couch and enjoy sitting down to play at my PC. But then I'm just not much of a console gamer and prefer the PC by a far margin.
I liked Dan's new segment and look forward to getting more of his insights, but just ask him to slow down a bit next time. It felt like listening to those old micromachine commercials with the guy talking a million miles per hour!

Karen is right - Epic Duels is Awesome!
It's actually a very fun (if a little random due to the card mechanics) little mini battles game from Milton Bradley. That's a game we play quite often at picnics/barbecues, because even the wives will play it, and it's enough of a mini battles game to satisfy us 40k nerds.
I was really excited to hear she got to play that.

I am determined to find Epic Duels somewhere so I can play it with the girls. It was just such a fun little game! It reminded me of another game Russ and I used to play back when Episode 1 first came out. I can't remember the name but it had three levels that made up the palace and you placed little plastic models on the different levels and tried to make your way through the whole thing in one piece. We got rid of it ages ago and now I'm wishing I still had that one!

Guys, I was laughing out loud at the opening discussion about Warmachine at Templecon. I'm sure the people in the streets thought I was crazy or something.
As for crowd-sourcing Raef's army list - I plead the 5th.
And Russ, our game together was the most memorable game of my entire weekend. Thanks again for the fun match.

Whoops, sorry Nicole. Good luck finding that one. A friend here hat the foresight to buy 2 copies while it was available, and apparently played the first one until it disintegrated. It's always neat when you find a game which scratches the itch without being a major investment in collecting/painting/studying. Epic Duels is a great little minis game. (Plus it allows me to fulfill my fantasy of leaping around as Obi-Wan, leading clone troopers to battle. Too fun!

Nicole: That sounds like Star Wars: Queen's Gambit. It is an earlier incarnation of the Commands and Colors series, which includes Battle Cry, Commands and Colors: Ancients, Memoir '44, Battlelore, and soon, Battles of Westeros. Great game.

Thanks to this episode I am now thinking about using the Hirst Arts molds to make a Descent board -- even though I know I don't have the time right now to take on this task.
And regarding the PS3 vs XBox360 discussion, I think the most important consideration is what your friends already have since you will want to play online with them.

Finally got through the episode this morning. It's been a busy week.
Thank you guys for the shout out about the contest! I do appreciate it.
Great episode as usual. I really enjoyed Russ & Raef's discussion on the tech lair. I am -way- behind on my tech (except for my iPhone which Raef convinced me to get - and I love it!). It was a very interesting segment and a little out-of-the-box from your usual content.
Dan's segment was a nice addition as well. I think that Dan has some incredible insights about the industry from the retailer perspective. But slow down Dan! It sounded like he was trying to beat his best time. It's not like you guys are shy about stretching things out a bit.
Good stuff from Nicole and Ken as well, and I loved Craig's Malifaux backstory rendition in Did Ya' Ever Notice. Well done, you!
I also liked the Malifaux review and I'm fascinated by the card playing mechanics, but the miniatures and the theme just do not do it for me. I think I can safely say that it's one of the few games I won't be Jedi Mind Tricked into. But that's why I listen to you guys so I can make informed decisions. Well, most of the time anyways.

Congrats, guys (and gal!) on your 50th episode!
Another great show. Enjoyed the Malifaux review. The mechanics sound very interesting, but I'm one of those for whom the setting is a complete turn-off.
Found the Tech Lair segment especially interesting as we're in the midst of trying to figure out the strategy for our home with a TV downstairs in the family room, one in our bedroom and another coming in our soon-to-be upstairs TV/video game room. We've been rennovating an old 1890 farmhouse for the past year and a half and are finally coming down to the point where we can think about things like TV instead of framing and drywall! We'd love to go cable-free.
Again, congrats on 50 episodes....I'm already awaiting #51!

Is there a place that lists all of the songs featured on "The Score" by episode? I often listen while driving and can't write down all of the songs/soundtracks that I'm interested in.

Its in their discussion forums on the Facebook Fanpage. The author of the score lists them all, a very handy resource.
Good selections from this month, I got a bunch of them from iTunes.

The Score was brilliant this episode. He out did himself. He bullseyed the feeling of Malifaux, and his selections were mostly pieces I've never heard before.
I love Malifaux BTW. I've got the book and a good cross section of the models and I'd say the game is fun, but very different from other mainstream wargames. The fluff and model quality are both really excellent. To be honest I'd love to read more fluff. they should consider producing more material (novels, comics, roleplaying supplements). I'd buy em. It reminds me of The Dark Tower (which is a compliment since I love The Dark Tower series). I can't wait to see where Wyrd takes it from here. I'm hooked. Even if I can't drum up enthusiasm in my area for a game of Malifaux, I'll still buy the books and models because I enjoy the looks and fluff of the game. Plus it's reasonably priced IMO for an all metal game, and the low model counts make it even more affordable to just try out.
The fluff recap at the end was great.

Hi, just wanted to congratulate you guys on your 50th show. My friend introduced me to your podcast around episode 30 or so and I spent about 6 months catching up starting from episode 1.
This was a great episode. Loved the Score as always, Dan's segment was good if a little rushed, and loved the Malifaux review. The game sounds really cool and I like the idea of the card mechanics, but something about the art style just doesn't do it for me.
A couple comments though:
1. George RR Martin's series is called A Song of ICE and FIRE, not Fire and Ice.
2. I'm sorry to disappoint Raef, but God of War will never be on the Xbox 360 because it is made by Sony. That would be like saying Mario is coming out for the 360. Just not going to happen.
3. HDMI cables are the most ridiculously over-priced items at electronics stores. Instead of paying $50 for a cable at Best Buy, just quickly browsing Amazon.com shows me I can get a 6 foot long cable for 16 CENTS, a 10 foot cable for $8.35, and so on and so on. NEVER buy HDMI cables from a physical store. I don't know why they charge so much, but you can get them for almost nothing comparatively online.
Besides these little quibbles, another great episode. I know you guys are probably always being asked to review games and whatnot, but if I could add a couple to the list I'd like to hear you guys talk about: Middle Earth Quest, Infinity the miniatures game, Eclipse Phase the rpg, the Race for the Galaxy expansions, and the Adventurers.
Keep up the great work guys!

Hi jabrams, Thanks for the feedback.
#1) Yeah, there is a great chain of restaurants around here called "Fire and Ice" which probably means I was hungry when I recorded.
#2 & #3 we discuss in Ep 51 in the feedback section. I generally buy my HDMI stuff online too, and I should have mentioned that, although I've never found one as cheap as 16 cents. That is a very good deal!
