In a recent game, the following thing happened: i have my hammerhead behind my firewarriors who are in combat with a squad of orc boys.

I proceed to fire with my hammerhead at some faraway squad X, being able to see 100 per cent of those targets, with absolutely no LOS blocked from the cc right in front of me, thanks to my skimmer base. Since I am behind my firewarriors, i am shooting over them however.

My opponant is adamant that his faraway squad X get cover saves, because my hammerhead is 'shooting through friendly models'. The fact is, I'm shooting over friendly models, with no LOS issues at all. Should squad X gain a cover save or not?

If you are drawing line of sight between models a cover is conferred. If you draw your line of sight clearly over them no cover is granted from the models.

Yeah, the LOS has to actually pass through the unit for a cover save.

Okay, great, now i don't feel guilty for arguing the LOS issue.

The issue was about shooting through friendly models, but if LOS trumps that, great!

You were never shooting *through* the models - you said so yourself, you were shooting *over* the models.

Thus it matters not a jot if they were friendly, enemy or cheerleaders - they never enter into your LOS so you dont care about them.
