I hate that they took away the traits so i suggest that GW makes a list.
In this list there are different combinations so you can exchange ex Combat tactics to Counter attack or someting else.
These days there is no way to personilise your army.

Well there sort of is with the special characters. But I know what you mean.

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

The problem with the traits was you could really abuse the system with out any drawbacks. The two most common Drawbacks choicen was No Droppods, and No Allies. Keep in mind that this was before GW released the Droppod model so few people had access to it.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

The best solution is probably a sort of compromise between the two; having all traits cost points either on the marines (like veteran skills) or as optional add-ons to a commander (a more generic version of the current special character shticks).

But current design theory seems to have moved away from these ideas.

I like the Special Character system personally. It is simple and resistant to abuse.

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

I still maintain that IMHO the latest Space Marine Codex is the best one made. Well balanced and if you want traits you can get them by buying the special charactors associated with them.

I did like the trait system but find the new codex more more appealing in the way you need to use specific charactors to get the traits you wanted.

I feel that traits are better than being forced to take a SC.
However, as stated above, the old system was so full of holes due to the drawbacks that were not drawbacks (no allies).

So yes, either have only bonuses, but add points to all squads, or have a list of drawbacks that actuly hurt.

More important then having drawbacks 'hurt' is not giving a freedom to choose the ones you want, that was where the abuses tended to come into play.

But in general I'd rather just have them cost points.

i'd love to get back the chapter traits and drawbacks and jackmojo makes a good point it wasn't abused by imperial fists or white scars players. It was the the made up chapters who abused the system. If GW did some work (if being the keyword ) they could refine the system

You love it you slags!
