The T-fexi let me bust transports for the stealers early on
The Mawlocs - Id start on the table and burrow them turn 1 allowing them to come in turn 2. They should prevent the enemy from castling.

I've gone for B, T-Fex's aren't brilliant.

Swarmlord will need 2 tyrant guard, one won't last long. Tried it myself.

6 'stealers isn't enough. You need more and double units.

I would make those mawlocs trygons. Mawlocs work best with the deep strike mucking around they do. Trygons are beast in combats and wreck vehicles.

I would deepstrike the Mawlocs - its just on the first turn - I would expose them to direct fire by keeping them on the table. This does 2 things. One - it allows me to burrow them 1st turn, ensuring they come in on turn 2 and more importantly, it gives my enemy more MC targets to prioritize.

The stealers are there to harass and kill small units the enemy leaves to guard their own OBJ's - I agree its a small number - theyre expendable but DEADLY.

Where do I scrap up the 60 points for another guard? Thats a weakness I anticipated.

Ymgarl stealers at 24 points a pop at not expendable. You want expenable then get normal stealers instead.

My point is trygons are better for mashing up vehicles and have more attacks

23 points actually Theyre a small unit but can get to the fight relatively intact as long as they can deploy in cover - thats why i use such a small unit of them.

I agree that tyrgons are house. Two things have me seriously thinking about switching to Mawlocs though. They reliably turn up turn 2 without needing a commander hive tyrant and their S6 AP2 template. Ill still get 4 S7 MC attacks on the charge (adrenal glands). Their biggest downside is they do not fleet like the trygons.

The swarmlord has a reserve +1 bonus if I remember right, could be wrong though.

Yeah he does - even still though it adds a bit of variability to the list. Having 3 MC's coming in that I can count on versus on a 3+.... Im trading some combat power and 90 more points for 3 Mawlocs that will come in turn 2.

I could add TWO trygons (not primes) instead of 3 Mawlocs - this would give me the points to add a 2nd Tyrant Guard to the Swarmlord....

If you're running more than one Mawloc, let's say two:

Why not start both on the board, burrow one on turn 1 and the other on turn 2?

It seems like the greatest benefit you get from the mawloc is the disruption effect on you opponent. If you burrow both on the same turn, he can relax every other turn. If you stagger them, he has to stay spread out all the time.

Just a thought.

I like the suggestion of using 3 Trygons instead of 3 Mawlocs - thanks Mercer - good call.

Quick note: Mawlocs can't burrow the same turn they enter play from deepstrike.

I dont think Hesperus was implying they could - instead he means that staggering the turns so that every turn one is coming in from deepstrike is better than all coming in on one turn. Constantly having one coming in from reserve each turn rather than alternating turns and having them all come in together.
