Hey all,

I didn't want to risk taking the Dieties and Demigods discussion (GREAT DISCUSSION) off topic, but did want to talk more about old-school D&D resources on the net. In particular, I was VERY interested in finding a community that still plays or openly discusses the old AD&D system (1st edition or 2nd) although old school D&D (like the Basic Set, Expert Set, etc) would also be interesting to discuss.

Feel free to post links to anything related (does not have to be a forum or community - it could be fanmade adventures, history of the game, you name it) and feel free to openly discuss any of these items as well.

Solorg

PS - here's a little something to get started with - the History of D&D.

Dragonsfoot.org is a fantastic site. They have a ton of NEW 1st ed material and modules on the main site, and excellent forums for discussion of old D&D of every stripe.

Noble Knight games and Goodman games are excellent places to buy old-school stuff.

Other than that, the main action is at the old-school blogs. Start at grognardia.blogspot.com, poleandrope.blogspot.com, or (for the more gonzo) jrients.blogspot.com, and start reading. They often have some particularly interesting or important posts linked on the right-hand side for easy access. And each
has a huge blogroll (list of links to others) linked on the right hand side. Once you start clicking, you'll find months worth of reading.

I was able to get almost all of the old 1st edition books off of eBay at good prices, finally!

You just have to know when to avoid the outrageous prices and not bid up too high on stuff.

And watch out for shipping charges!

Some of the world settings and modules go for quite the pretty penny too though!

acaeum.com is really good for 1st edition discussions, finding info and even purchasing OOP 1st ed items too. Plenty of good folks over there and even scans on printings and print runs!

old dnd is the shizzle. i used to have the phb, dmg, and monster man... and that combo was enough to revitalize 30 yr olds to want to play again. I like that all the charts for everything are so random and completely insane... try running a 1st ed. dnd game using the random illnesses chart per month for instance..

Retroactively applied infallability is its own reward. I wish I knew this years ago.
