Hi folks, I hope someone on the boards can help me with this one. I've recently seen the GaleForce 9 Battlefield in a Box Modular Rivers (see below for product shots), and I admit I'm intrigued. I know I could also build my own rivers using fairly common materials, but I'm not sure I want to invest the time (I've got several armies I need to paint still!). I know the GaleForce 9 Rivers are designed for 15mm games, but I'm wondering is anyone has used them for 40K, and how they look against a standard 288mm "heroic scale" figure like the GW figs.

Does anyone have photos if they are using them on their gaming tables?

Thanks in advance!
Keith

Sorry, amending my previous post here. I didn't realize that the grey boxed rivers were all expansions, I thought they were new rivers to go with all the other 28mm terrain in the Battlefield in a Box line.

That being said, they still work well for 40K. I have some 28mm rivers I bough ages ago that aren't much wider than these, so they do work nicely.

JHall:

About how wide are the rivers on average? 2"? 2.5"? Wider?

Thanks for the reply!

I built my own river sections a couple of years ago - had these been around then, I may not have bothered. As it is, though, my river is 8" wide overall, with a 6" actual waterway (a bridge wide enough for a baneblade and two fords are also included for safe crossing along its 6' length).

I do like their BIAB series stuff. Their hills are quite awesome (and much better value than the GW stuff).

Maybe another way to ask how wide the rivers are is for me to ask, what's the length of one of those Flames of War tanks shown in the river?

For 40mm gaming, those don't look bigger than streams...

I think a river looks fine when it's just made out of murky, muddy glue

Average size of a FoW tank is 1" or so (some possibly 1 1/2") - I used to play in HO scale back in the 80s and 15mm isn't much of a difference.
In 40k, these would be streams. A river would be at least 4-6" wide. These rivers would slow down a unit (with a difficult terrain check during movement) a little.
A proper river would take 1-2 "moves" to get through (or one with a very good roll).
