Space Wolves are the current best, though from the sneak-peak I've had at the BA Codex, they're gonna be the ones who enter combat in turn 2 at the latest.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

Space Wolves for at the moment.

Blood Angels coming up will likely be just ridiculously powerful in close combat.

There's small rumors floating around that Black Templars are getting a new codex as their first one sucked. You can make some good lists with BT already but a new codex would beef them up to the new BA level.

Army-wide Preferred Enemy is hard to beat. Black Templars are pretty good.

I would just wait until the BA codex comes out to make a decision. Unless you're really impatient and want to play Wolves or Templar. It's looking like BA are going to be a powerful CC chapter (Gotta love Assault Marines in the Troops slot - at least from the 4e mini-dex).

Blood angels are the best due to being able to field more assault marines, but there is not real winner as all space marines have the same stats ATM.

Welcome to the Daemonhunters, the ranks of the exalted Ordo Malleus and their cannon fod....er, I mean, loyal allies. Remember...the only ones who need fear the righteous might of the Ordo Malleus are the Daemonic.

The thing is, space wolf grey hunters have bolt pistol/ccw just like assault marines, but get a bolter on top of that. Dunno if BA assault marines get jetpacks, but wolves are pretty solid as far as CC goes.

If I had to rank them it would be:
1. Space Wolves (best overall with solid CC backbone)
2. Black Templar (army-wide preferred enemy, can take assault transports (land raiders) for their troop choices who can have ccw/bolt pistol and large units. They also have the best CC unit in the game (dual-lightning claw assault termies with furious charge rerolling hits and wounds at strength 5.) But their shooting units kind of suck and fail atm, unlike wolves who can still field some solid ranged choices.
3. Blood Angels. Even regular marines might be better with their sweet assault terminators. No telling where they'll be after a new codex tho.

Actually, now that I think about it, you make a good point. Grey Hunters might well be the best - just because they can take the bolter shots, let the BAs assault, and then still get a counter-attack with pistol/close combat weapon. Don't know about other chapters (Haven't really looked at anything other than BA, SW, and Vanilla) but GHs are pretty decent at both shooting and CC.

It's gotta be the BA simply for the Death company a free unit of SM's with the feel no pain and furious charge rules and rending attacks who can be lead by a chaplain. They can also be given jump packs no space puppy can beat that.

I see the wolves as more peerless veterans who can choose how they want to fight, and will countercharge your ass if they decide they want to shoot , here's hoping BA will be the blood frenzied monsters they should be. Not sure about BT they're crusaders so i think they should be CC focussed but not beserk, love both chapters but can only afford to collect one thing at a time...

I agree with Praxiss, but...

If you really want to go nuts, make a very and I mean a VERY combat orientated Flesh Tearers army from the Blood Angels rules.

Khorne Berzerkers? They aint got nuthin on the boys from Craetacia! Think cave men space marines.

Though fluff wise, their homeworld is only described as a harsh feral world. I was thinking of using Aztecs as a style but that would be too neat...

Hmmm, jump pack deathenesssss
