I want Dakka's opinion on an idea i had today for my FLGS:

Kill Team Fridays! Basically it would be Friday Night Magic, but for warhammer players.

I figure that a 3-game match of magic: the gathering and a single Kill-Team match would take about the same time to play, so feasibly both could fit into the same time frame.

How many people here would attend a weekly small tournament using Kill Team rules at their local game stores? Especially if there were Leaderboards and say, monthly prizes?

Thanks for the input,

Absolutely.
I love Kill-Team.
I started playing right toward the end of 4th edition and my friends and I would always play kill team in between regular games, especially when we didn't want to lug whole armies around. We still play it occasionally.
Glad to see other people are still interested in it.

At a ccampaign before i started play to wow. I would watch games.
There were leaderboards. and prizes. alot of people came. So i think if you just advertisi it through word of mouth it would be possible.

Awesome. In addition to the OP, people who have actually played the 4th Ed. kill team please post some memorable battles you've had.

Also, for those same posters, how different is the rumored (now confirmed by most advance copies of B. Missions) 5th ed. Kill Team from the 4th Ed. ruleset?

Kill-Teams is awesome. I play it from time to time, although my group doesn't have remotely enough terrain to make it interesting. So far, most of the games have been completely one-sided, although I did play a pretty epic one by myself.

The goal was for a squad of Space Wolves (Some Wolf Guard and a handful of Fenrisian Wolves) to infiltrate an abandoned ruin that has recently shown signs of Chaos taint. They team made it there to find that it was indeed being guarded by several CSMs, and managed to retrieve several artifacts that could have caused a major daemon incursion. Unfortunately, right at the last minute (As the last few were making their escape) the boss stood back up, fired off his plasma pistol, and killed the last two Wolf Guard.

I would love more kill team support. Problem is, I assume since magic is such a huge game, your (or other) LGS will want magic night to have as many tables as possilbe. I know at my LGS, losing a bunch of magic tables for warhammer games when a magic event is happening is really dumb.

Also, Magic is a better investment for a store for a league, as usually you will sell a TON of packs on draft night/ect. Where as with kill team, you will sell as little as 1 tac squad box, and that could keep a kill team only player happy for life. At least with regular 40k, the investment required for an army will make the store some profit.

I would be interested in possible solutions, but the biggest one, an entry fee to make your LGS some rent money, would most likely be HEAVILY frowned upon by most players. "What do you mean I need to pay $20 to play in the Kill Team event... I dont even get anything for playing!"

Our game store keeps 5 40k tables (10 for kill team, since it's played on a half table in the new rules) set up 24/7, and 5 MtG tables as well, with spare tables in case extras show up.

Magic IS very popular, i've played it for 15 years myself, sporadically at times, but i've noticed at my store that on fridays not everybody in the store is doing the magic thing. some are looking at warhammer fantasy models, some are admiring the painted 40k and bloodbowl minis in the display cabinets. I would like this to help maybe bring some people to the table who would otherwise be twiddling their thumbs on fridays. Plus, people who play magic and 40k can always jump into a quick kill team game after their draft is over or if they drop. I'm tempted to change the night to Thursdays but i'm going to wait for local feedback and see when works best for everyone. Friday is best for me, since i'm not always in town during the week.
