Whitest planning my IG regiment, I have had to choose what I am going to have for infantry. As I shoped and thought on the GW site, I noticed, compared to the catachans, who kinda grew on me as being unique and full of character, the cadians are bland. Am I the only one who thinks this? I will buy some of them for parts, but the catachans seemed to feel more unique then the cadians. Dose anyone else think this way?

While not a Guard player by any means...
Cadians are the Ultrasmurfs of the IG, but a little better. (I mean, they have CREEEEEEEEEED).
But other than that, yeah, they're just the poster boyz of the IG.

Lol. I'm more going for feathers. I'm going to try and make my company commander look like a cross between CREEEED and Reaver from fable 2. (just google him if you haven't played it).

I think the Cadians are underestimated. I've noticed that as soon as one model range for 40K is set as the standard, all veteran gamers become almost elitist about them, and refuse to touch them with a ten foot barge pole.
Cadians are nice models. It's jsut that because veterans(myself included) are obsessed with having something 'unique', and different from the badly painted 13 year old crowd, they scoff and pooh-pooh what is otherwise actually an excellent range of models.

So the real solution would be just to paint them up well as that would set them apart enough?
If I want unique I do minor conversions
But the Cadians aren't really bland, they're raised from birth to fight, then have to deal with all the crap the Eye of Terror throws at them. Basically Catachan, but with a more formal uniform.

I ment the Cadian Shock Troops, the Karskins are amazing. Mordians are great too, but they are gunna be in my WH army, so I cant use them in both.

I collect Cadians because of the amount of kits, conversions possibilities and they're the truest representation in plastic of a Modern fighting force. However, I agree if you just use a Vanilla (e.g. Cadian 8th style) list then yes its bland.

Of course your standard infantryman is bland.
In the Imperial Guard, you don't get the good kit until you've survived at least ten different massacres
But in all seriousness:
They're gorgeous models, and the blandness of them is what originally drew me to the Cadians. When given relatively simple things(look at Forge World's Cadian Respirator kits and the equipment packs)--they take a whole new level of character, going from your Average Joe Schmoe given fresh kit to a veteran who's survived multiple campaigns.

The Cadians are all business, so they don't have feather and fur trim, or golden helmets and crimson greatcoats. That does make the army look bland, but to me that fits perfectly with the idea of the lowly grunt. Give em fatigues, boots, a flak vest and a lasgun, and they don't look like much. But arm them with faith, training and discipline, send them against the galaxy, and they will win!

If more of us valued food and cheer and 40K over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. |

Wait people dont think I'm Dissing the models, I mean the Forge world converted vendetta is my favourite ever model. I just don't like the way that 6/8 guard players will go Cadian 8th.

i think the reason they are looked at as bland is because they dont have the vishual "pop" of some other armys. but if you were to go to war agenst the foul arch enamy they are who you wold want covering ur butt

I'd challenge this statistic- IME, many guard players vary at least their camo scheme.
Anyway, IMO a well painted army of Cadian 8th can look very impressive.

Are you meaning that 6/8 Guard players will go with the standard fatigue uniform of y'know...EVERY Cadian regiment in existence?
Because the khaki fatigues and green body armor are the standardized fatigue uniform of the Cadian regiments. They issue alternate uniforms as needed for environments.

They are plain but actually make sense fluff wise, they come from a planet where nearly everyone is drafted into military service. I do not think there are going to be too many pieces of gear or resources to waste making everyone look "fabulous"!
I think that guard players feel like this from time to time, because like myself I looked through the codex and saw all the other awesome looking guard regiments and models and wanted some, but when I got the GW store all I found were Cadians and Catachans

I think the Cadian models are a great baseline because they lack the special frills and quirks of other armies, making customization of them into somethign uniquely your own easier.
