Hello everyone.

This is the first time I've painted miniatures since I was a kid. So don't judge to harshly. Took me ages to work out a colour scheme for my Tyranids, then in the end I thought sod it that will do. Eventually I will have the guts to tackle the big guys (Carnifex, Hive Tyrant and the Trygon. Tell me what you think.

Cheers

Cheers mate.

Was originally a light blue/orange (which I saw on some gaming card thing), that evolved into dark blue, originally citadels deadly nightshade, then as that ran out and gw discontinued it I used Necron Abyss with black added. Bestial brown for the carapace parts.

Wanted to paint them lighter colours, but never liked any of the combination I used. Also I thing darker colours using a black under coat are more forgiving.

Cheers mate, i think they might of ended up a bit to much like classic genestealers tho. But im pretty happy with them, especially when there all together.

Dude... that army looks freakin' amazing. Can you give us a rundown of the specific colors used?

"I drive a big car, cuz I'm a big star. I'll make a big rock-and-roll hit." "I am a big car, and I'm a strip bar. Some call it fake, I call it good-as-it-gets."

Welcome!

The army looks great! I am not a fan of the pink heads on the stealers, but to each his own.

Have you thought of stripping the brown with a dark bone color? I think it would really make the color scheme pop. Kind of like this model.

Cheers mate. The main colours I used were:-

Necron Abyss
with more than a hint of Chaos Black for the Skin, with a Leviathan Purple wash (which a lot of the time you cant see, which is something im trying to get better at)

Either Warlock Purple or Red Gore for the muscle splits, (also the head of stealers some purple some red, with a purple wash). Sometimes I didnt bother painting the splits as with my hormagaunts and some of the stealers.

Bestial Brown for the armour, with Scorched Brown for the parts where the plates meet and a Devlan Mud wash on the larger models. Also used Scorched brown for the talons/claws/feet and used a Badab Black wash

For the detailed parts I used Blood Red for the eyes and tongues, Skull White for the teeth, Bilious Green (which has been discontinued, so maybe Scorpion Green) for the toxin sacs, Warlock Purple for adrenal glands, Hawk Turquoise for gun tubes/gun eyes, also Tentacle Pink and Bleached Bone were used for some of the various mouth/tongue options.

The undercoat was black and I use a satin varnish, and highlighted adrenal glands and toxin sacs with 'Ardcoat gloss varnish

I think thats all of it.

Anyway thanks for the compliment. I think my painting has improved since my first Termagant to my last Hormagaunt (thats why there is no close-ups of the termagants )

Yeah I know what you mean. I wasn't sure at first, but I thought they looked a bit boring with out more colour. I think when they are all together they look rather lovely tho. Decided to do the same to my Hormagaunts.

As for the armour I did try bleached bone, but didnt really like it. Also found that I had to use multiple coats, which would take to long. Furthermore I generally prefer darker nids, and didnt want mine to look like the kraken fleet. I have though about added bleached bone highlights to the ends of the plates, but when Ive done this it doesnt look natural, so to speak. But maybe when im a better painter I could pull it off better. It also means another painting step. Might give it a go on some of the bigger guys ive not painted.

Thanks for the comments, you made two good points which I have mused over

Thanks for the compliment mate

Thanks for the breakdown of colors. I'm only just learning to paint so info like that helps a ton. Your models look great.
