Hi guys a quick question for the painters among you. I'm looking to change my paints up from the GW line. I've done most of the research and decided to go with Vallejo but I wanted to find out the difference between the Game color and the Model color lines. Also any tips or problems that you may have found useing the ranges.

Not 100% but assume that the Model range are aimed at, well model making.
The range is therefore based historical colours; camofluage, uniforms etc

The Game line will therefore be based around fantasy

Here is what I know from my experience and reading.

Model color is a bit thinner and a bit more flat than the Game color. They both thin well, but the model color seems to lose less coverage when thinned. My opinion purely.

Game color includes a hardener to make them last longer. Unfortunately this is why they are thicker and they tend to dry less flat than the Model color.

Game color tends to have a larger variety of "bright" colors. They also tend to be mirrored to GWs colors.

I find the Game color metallics to cover better than the model color ones.

I pretty much use both ranges of paint. Of course I also have some P3 paints, GW foundation and inks/washes as well. Its more about me finding paint/colors that I like the properties of and going with it.

Any make of acrylic is compatible for mixing with any other acrylic and any acrylic media.

The only reason to stick to a particular range or individual colour is if they make a very specific paint like Turner's Yellow or Wehrmacht Feldgrau. Even then you need to acknowledge that 'real' paint varies between between batches and according to amount of exposure to the sun and so on.

Basically I mix stuff until it looks nice to me.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Not strictly true as they may use differing mediums.
However the ranges generally discussed above should be compatible though have only used Vallejo varnish.
Have mixed Citadel/Humbrol/Revell acrylics together with no problems.
Just be careful though as some systems use an alcohol based medium, which doesn't do a lot of good to the likes of Citadel paints.
Tamiya for instance, is not good to mix with the above.

One other note is that the Game Color range is much, much smaller than the model color range, so easier to get them all, but fewer options.
