Subject: Imperial Fist Icons: the new molded shoulders or decals?

Has anyone seen the new http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod330004a&rootCatGameStyle= Crimson Fist Tactical Shoulder pads in person?
I can't decide whether to go with the molded shoulder pads on my new Imperial Fist army, or if I should just go with the decals... What do you guys think? Has anyone seen the new pads in person on the table top? I imagine they will look great, but I'm able to get the new decals very smooth. They might look just as good.
Will the new pads make the models 'pop' that much more on the table?
What do you all think? Does anyone have pictures of models with the new shoulders on them?
Thanks for any advice.

Those have been on the site for awhile... I dunno about that cast specifically, but most tend to have issues with the custom pads. They're usually smaller if you look close enough and almost never fit properly on the model.

Nope these are new casts and larger than the old ones. I have a set in hand and I can't decide which way to go.

Could go with both, and only use the molded shoulderpads for captains, sergeants, veterans and the like

Good idea actually!
I wonder if I can try them out on my first squad but still be able to remove them somehow if I decide against them. Maybe if i use PVA glue for the left should pauldrons?

I got one of the new Fists xpacks and while the shoulderpads are fairly similiar to the old ones, the addition of the backpacks and helms do a lot to unify an army without resorting to a lot of greenstuff. The advantage of the metal shoulders is that you have a 3d texture bit that can be made to look very nice with shading and highlighting whereas a decal - while crisp on the edges - is flat and will always look like it was painted onto the armor.

I like the molded shoulders for a few reasons.
First is you can do a lot with shadow and high lights. Depth is also far more interesting to look at than flat.
The second is decals will stand out as not yours. Even if you get rid of the shiny nature of the decal, it won't match your painting style. Never remind your viewer of someone else's work; keep them interested in YOUR work.

Excellent point, and I think you hit on what was bothering me about the decals. It doesn't match my painting style and it looks foreign on the model to my eye. I think I can take the molded shoulder pads and make them look like it matches the pait style ont eh army and that's a big deal to me.
Thanks for all the well thought out replies everyone. I recieved some great feedback and it helped me decide on which way to go with the army. Cheers!
