Xerxes the Furyhanded: Master of sanctity

Xerxes is the head Chaplain for the Grey Templars Space Marine chapter. His wrath for the enemies of the emperor knows no bounds. As an initiate he once toppled an Eldar wraithlord single handedly after the xeno construct had slaughtered its way through his squad mates and killed his brother, the one individual he had ever had compassion for. he was selected to become a chaplain and rapidly progressed throught the ranks. He has over the course of the years become a skilled warrior and his lack of scars is testimony to his skill. it is said that the day Xerxes is killed is the day the greatest enemy of the chapter is found. He wields a massive 2 handed Crozius Arcanum, a relic of the chapter, named Malleus Dominati with blinding speed and skill.

Malleus Dominati: This 2 handed Crozius is a truly formidable weapon. It is 2 handed and therefore cannot be combined with any other weapon such as pistols. it confers +2 to Xerxes's strength in close combat and counts as a power weapon.

Liturgies of Sanctity: Xerxes knows the chants and prayers of his office by heart. He may instill resolve in his companions, put the fire of the Empeoror in their hearts or give them the strength tear asunder their foes.

At the begining of his movement phase he must choose what Liturgy to chant. it then remains in effect until his next movement phase.

Liturgy of Battle: on a player turn in which he assaults, Xerxes and all member of an attached squad may reroll all failed to hit rolls in an assault.

Liturgy of Strength: Xerxes and any member of the squad he has joined may reroll all failed to wound rolls made in an assault.

Liturgy of Doom: all enemy models in base to base contact with Xerxes in an assault must reroll all succesfull saves made in that close combat.


What does Dakka think?

Seriously undercosted. A Captain w/ relic blade, plasma pistol, and artificer armor costs 155 points, and that's without Strength 5 or any of your special abilities. This guy should cost 175 points minimum, and probably more than that. He also doesn't feel very much like a Chaplain, since he doesn't have the Chaplain's main fluff ability (and disadvantage)-- Fearless. Not a big fan.

When compared to a Relic Blade Captain with AA, he seems a little on the cheap side.

Edit: Ninjaed. He does have the Honour of the Chapter rule (fearless).

he has all the abilities of a vanilla chappie(look harder) Honour of the chapter makes him and his squad fearless and Liturgies of Battle is under his Liturgy choices.

What's his Attack characteristic? I'm not seeing anything.

Fluff critique: Given that a Wraithlord killed his brother he should probably have a grudge against the Eldar or even ALL psykers (Are your Grey Templars Grey Knight based?). How about something that disrupts psychic abilities? "...he has over the course of the year..." How long do you think it takes to become a Chaplin? Even in real life?

The Liturgy stuff should probably be like the BT's oaths and be choosen per battle not per turn, but IDK if these are standard Chaplin or not.

I would say, increase his Attacks, and reduce his Strength by 1 each.

My Chapter is just a codex chapter.

I was thinking maybe for the Liturgies to make a leadership test with varying modifiers to have him chant them. Sort of like a psychic test. I got the idea from Wood Elf Wardancers from WHFBs who choose what dance they will do in that turn.

I suppore it could be overpowered to choose turn by turn.
