So I have been playing guard for awhile now against my buddy and have learned how to deal with orks extremely well.
I am now going to start gaming at my FLGS this saturday and would like any guard tips, strategies, ect anyone has as well and some info I need.

SO I know that they people I am gaming against play:

-Nids
-Chaos
-Space Marines
-Space Puppies
-Tau

If anyone has any advice to offer please do share.

Also what is the best way to keep my guard in the fight and not hightailing it out of there

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Well there are a number of ways to run the good old gaurd if your looking to it up then you could do the leef blower that won Ard Boyz
or a fun armie that I recently borrowed 4 of my friends stuff for was an air cav armie it was 3 vendetas and 6 valkries with tons of vets. It was awesome and killed all the armies on your list.

One that I use alot that is a load of fun to play is a 4 vet squads all with demo charges and plasma guns mounted up in chimeras and you zoom your chimeras up and huck the demo charge out the window into thier stuff its really fun and is a blast to paly agianst aswell. support this with leman russes and some artillery and you have your self a seldge hammer gaurd.

Most of the hard hitting IG list that i think people praise are:

3 Veterans with melta gun in 3 Vendetta
6 Leman Russ Battle Tank
1 Manticore

Left over points , more vendetta with veterans?

Sounds good, now to proxy 2 more vendettas lol

How should I go about using a list like this? (I am approaching this with the Socratic method)

and what about morale?

morale can be mitigated through Commissars; and Creed and Kell combo.

For fighting the Marines (sw, csm included) take a Leman Russ Executioner with Plasma Sponsons. It should take care of a fair few of those marines. Just remember to be careful of the th/ss Terminators, Melta weapons and any hard hitting CC units. From the games I've seen it makes up it's points pretty well.

Vendettas often function more like pure gunships. Filling up your FA with 1xVendetta w. heavy bolters x3 is not a bad way to spend points. You might want to fill them up with something scoring, but then again, you will probably have scoring units in chimeras anyways
6 Leman Russ is not a good way to spend pts. Squadron rules are not nice, and those 6 tanks are 900 points that can target 2 units each turn = NOT awesome. Squadrons are for 'Ard Boyz level and hydras
Manticore is awesome

To generalize, make sure that your guard army has firepower to handle both heavy armour and lots of infantry, and make sure you have the mobility to take objectives while also having enough firepower to keep you enemy off them

Hmm, okay just as I thought then. I was just wondering if there was another way

I think I will have to give this a shot

Yea, those squad rules are a pain in the ass. Your summary makes a lot of sense, I just need some tactics now
