Or does something about the process of harvesting from the Black Ships supercede the necessity for librarians?

This is from an entirely fluff-oriented standpoint, not looking to field a Librarian in a DH army, but given the extreme [even by marine standards] psychic rigors of training to become a Grey Knight, do ''normal Chapter'' Librarian duties fall on the Grand Masters? A secret council, if you will? Is it inherited at some point? Has their training regimen made the concept of the ''librarius'' obsolete/irrelevant?

For that matter, while I'm at it, how about Apothecaries? My guess is that they both would fulfill a more ''custodial'' role & would never see actual combat, but I really have no idea. If that were the case [the non-combatant angle], how extreme do you think the fully unleashed powers of a Grey Knight Librarian would be on the battlefield? Maybe I'm looking at this in the wrong way?

What are some good sources re: training undergone by initiate Grey Knights?

Anyhow, just curious & bored, thought I'd try to get some better non-gameplay knowledge about the grimdark.

Thanks in advance...

Grand Master are basically the equivalent of any Librarian. Having a whole chapter of psykers kinda defeats the purpose of having a single specialised marine with psycic powers.

Your basic Grey Knight is about as potent as any normal SM Librarian.

But untrained in how to use their power in every form except defense. Except that nasty holocaust of theirs. Freaking GK terminators...

Green Marines are the best marines!

Fluffwise they are more powerful, but also more specialised. Against chaos GKs are muh more powerful, and they are about the same (possibly still stronger) against anything else.

However they couldn't make an army with each model as powerful as a strong character so they had to tone GK down.

Like said before GKs are very potant, but limited in their powers.

Most never are able to do anything beyond creating the shrouding, making their weapons more powerful and powering the aegis.

Those who do show greater ability become higher ranked. In the omnibus it is mentioned that the highest a GK can go without showing offensive capabilities(hammerhand, holocaust) is Justicar.

Chaplains are also mentioned in the omnibus, but they don't have them in the game. I think its because the omnibus was written after the codex so many things arn't represented.

Personally I think the lack of chaplains , apothacarys and librarians from the GK list is a massive oversight. GK are marines on steroids and should still have the options of normal marines not be a cut down version with some of the most boring psycker powers in the grimverse.

GKs don't need Librarians. Brother Captains and Grand Masters are far more powerful then any normal Librarian could ever hope to be.

As for Apothacaries, the act of harvesting geneseed could probably be handled by the Inquisition at lower cost, if not harvested directly from the Emperor('s corpse) himself.

EIther way, Chaplains would be fitting. The Knights are very pious.

Well a librarian is a psychic space marine. And every single one of the grey knights are psykers. So because they are all psykers there is no librarian. Instead a grand master is just about the same skill level (lorewise probably more)

Librarian are pointless as every GK is a psyker.

Chaplains are a good idea as the GK are the most devoted to the emperor compared to all the other chapters.

Apothecaries as far as I am aware do not exist as I think every GK is trained in repairing injuries in the field and due to the link to the inquisition there home moon Titan has the best medical facilities in the galaxy, including the best medical staff and servitors.

The GK are trained to be able to fulfill every role that other chapters specialists fill.
