A real simple question. I have played, and received two different answers for this.

When you start the game. Player A. rolls higher then Player B. Does player A HAVE to go first or is the option to allow player B to go first still alive? I ask because i normally play as if you roll higher you Set up/go first. but when i went to a different hobby shop, A new face i was agaisnt told me to go first when he had highest roll, and im playing in Ard boys this year and don't want to look like a slow.

Page 92 and 93 of the BGB say that, for all three standard deployment types, the players dice off, and the winner chooses whether to go first or second.

The winning player can choose to go first or second.
The player going first then deploys their army.

Anyone else miss the days of alternating units when deploying and then rolling to see who goes first?

Nope. Not at all. In fact that is about the only thing I like about this edition.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

Nope.

TBH, going 2nd is a Far, FAR better option now than going first. Not only are you able to tactically screw over your opponents first round of shooting (and hey, making your opponent have one less shooting phase than you is a massive advantage) you get the last turn to Dash and Grab objectives to force a draw.

I still find it a tough decision at times with DE, it often comes down to "is his army fast enough to get guns in range of my raiders on turn 1 or is the board sparse enough that I can't hide them from long range fire?

If they are, I'd rather go first and have a Flat Out cover save, if not, I'd rather go second and have the advantages you mention. Particularly since if they are wreckless with their advancing it could potentially give me turn 1 assaults.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Especially with units like Deathleaper now, who can effectively steal an objective at will.

Or you can take Cato Sicarius, roll to sieze, and then NOT roll to sieze again!
Question: if opponent siezes, may cato sicarius resieze?
