Hey I bought some Warhammer about a year ago and never really got around to playing. But recently I've felt the urge to give it a go again.
I currently have: 1 20 man box of infantry, 1 heavy weapons team with a mortar, and a Basilisk.
I'm looking to put together a small army around 500 points just to get started. I wanted to use all catachan models if possible.
Any suggestions as far as what to buy next and what a 500 point list might look like?
It sounds like you can probably make 2 veteran squads, so right there you have 140 pts and your two troop choices.
Get the codex, if you don't have it already.
I would get another 10-man vet squad, 3xplas, melta, flame, a CCS, and transportation for the lot. Get a Russ- they are hard to deal with in low-point games.
Get a Catachen Command Box ($25), Iron Hand Straken ($15), and Sgt Harker ($15)

Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
Suggestions for the suggested list: he has the basilisk too so i would use it too. Second vets and command squad is WAY too expensive.
(BTW all the vehicles except sentinel and all the heavy weapons are unfluffy but the list would be unplayable so i would include only few vehicles here)
I think OP should buy a battle force and an extra heavy weapon squad which should make troop count high enough to play a fluffy army and it will bring him higher than intended 500 pts.
