I assume you mean the Reaper game?

I played it years ago, and I found that archers are amazingly overpowered. A unit or two of archers, especially if your opponent cannot counter them well, will win you every game.

I generally found the more expensive Warlords and leaders are simply not worth their points, as their abilities degrade too quickly. It is better to have a few sergeants and a lieutenant than it is to have a Warlord or a Captain.

The fluff and the armies are pretty cool, and the models are pretty good as well. I was/am a Reptus player.

I've played the newer version. Its a lot of fun, the newer rules really help. Go over to www.reapermini.com and look at the forum there for more opinions.

Warlord 2nd edition has wiped out all the problems from the orginal edition. It is a much better game and all factions are balanced at 1000 points. No figure is too powerful or under-power with their attached cost. For an example, one of the changes is magic spells. You no longer need to choose which spells to carry before the battle. Instead, each mage has access to a certain groups of spells and he can choose whichever that is needed during battle, limited by their casting power and spell points. Equipment is reduced down to the minimal. Indeed, one person is so impressive with the game that he has decided to make a series of short video on youtube. I've been playing it for years, and yes. Yes it is fun. I've got a Crusader army, an Elf army, and a Darkspawn army waiting to be assembled ( and between mah Chaos, my new WoC, and getting the Elves ready for Origins and Gencon, I don't see it happening soon).

The new edition is fantastic. The rules are easy enough to learn and all the factions (with the exception of a few to be added in the Savage North expansion) have their rules contained in the main book. You can start playing with a small amount of models. One leader, some basic soldiers, a hero, and a monster make for a great starting force and can cost about $75.

I don't know how you get a sum of $75 for such a small army even if you pay for full retail price. $40 is more appropriate. If you don't mind using Legendary Encounters, you can fill up to a 500 pts army for less than that.
