So when you're arranging a deepstriking unit, you don't get access to the 2nd ring unless you're using 8+ bodies. Generally speaking, how important is that 8th body?

This is a very general question as different units will get different benefits from that extra ring but some examples I'm thinking of are:

Terminators deepstriking with range to shoot
Lesser Daemons deepstriking within range to assault
Chaos Daemons deepstriking closer to their potential targets
Anything deepstriking closer to contest/claim an objective

EDIT: Changed to 8th because I can't count properly (thanks CatPeeler!)

OT. seriously, it would depend on what was DSing, and what their job/goal was.

I don't see how this is a question or what it's importance is. Take however many guys you want in a deepstriking squad, generally if you have more guys in the unit the more effective they're going to be.

2,000pts Empire of Quatar - Tomb Kings W-3 . . D-1 . . L-6

They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear.

Its the issue of trying to get the most bang for your buck. In this case, its comparing the bang of having access to that 2nd ring when deepstriking vs the buck of having to pay for more bodies in the squad.

Hmm if your adding that 7th body souly for that one reason I dont reallly see it being worth it. It might help out 1 out of ever 6 games if that.

uh...you don't get the second ring until the 8th model, actually...

Still don't see any reason for this, a unit of 7 terminators has a better chance at killing 5 terminators than the 5 terminators do. If you're deepstriking on an objective to contest it then it doesn't even matter if you 'have a 7th' depending on whats near the objective is gonna tell you if they survive long enough. If you want them to contest an objective for sure, Take 10 Of Them. Its all opinion here and theres no definitive answer.

7th Deepstriker - Not Important

W/e # of Deepstrikers you want - Important

The eye of terror.

If you get a Hit, then the number of models is not important. However, if you scatter, having some control over where you place the 8th model could help mitigate the fact that you've scattered away from your chosen point.

It's handy on Bloodcrushers, as you can place the 8th model wherever is most convenient (to get closer to Fateweaver, or to extend your charge threat radius another 60mm in an appropriate direction).
