So all my Necromunda models arrived today, and I guess I need to start modifying them, but having never done this before, I thought I would ask for some advice.

Despite buying millions of the damn things, none of them are quite right for use in my gang, and the thought of modifying my painstakingly constructed gang roster to fit the models is horrible. So I guess I've got to start chopping arms off, but I'm scared I'm going to ruin them all.

Quite why the GW model-makers decided that Eschers should be equipped with stub-guns instead of swords is beyond me.

Anyway, what's the best way to go about this? I've got several scalpels, and some super-glue, but is that the best thing to use? I've not tried glueing metal like this, nor cutting it. Advice? And how many times can I keep cutting hands off and glueing them back on before the wrists just completely fall apart? As soon as I get more creds, all of the weapon sets should be getting an upgrade.

Also, not having a bits-box leaves me a bit short-sworded. If anyone has a few of these lying around, they would be greatly appreciated. Will trade beer for swords and a flamer on Tue . (edit: This was copied and pasted from my local board, without proof-reading. Will not e-mail you beer)

Cheers folks.

Hi Fishy, welcome to Dakka.

Obviously you have now encountered first hand the reasons GW are moving towards plastic models - they're cheaper, more modular, and easier to model with. That said, vintage games like Necromunda have some great metal minis (I used to have an Escher gang myself) to play with.

As for practical modeling advice:
Cutting metal - razor saw
Glueing metal - high viscosity superglue
Modelling metal - green stuff (or similar - other epoxy putties are available)

Be very careful trying to cut metal with a scalpel - it'll end in tears! Use a saw, and you have a nice clean flat finish on which you can model and re-model new weapons. It does usually mean cutting hands off though. It might be worth you buying some bitz like human hands, weapons, and accessories from websites like bitzbox.com and bitsandkits.com, probably IG stuff. To make swords, you can cut up plastic sprues to make blades and hilts, or trade someone at your FLGS for some daggers (always have them lying about if you play IG or SM). Also bear in mind that a 'sword' may simply be a large sharpened bit of metal in the impoverished underhive, so model creatively.

Hope this helps

I would also recommend pinning all the cut joints just to add some durability to them.
