Heya,

Anyone know of a good metallic green paint to use for the reinforced edges of Ultramarine 4th Company shoulder pads?

I found this on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/MR-HOBBY-Color-C77-Metallic-Green-ACRYLIC-PAINT-10ml_W0QQitemZ370335903694QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5639bd6fce

If anyone has worked with something like this, what did you use to highlight it?

Thanks!

Have you tried mixing boltgun or mythryl silver with a green paint?

Not yet, just gathering ideas for a new army project. I have been away from the hobby for so long most of my paint needs to be replaced, so I don't have anything to play with just yet.

I might give that a shot though just to see what it looks like.

Thanks.

The Coat D'Arms range (currently owned by Black Hat) includes the original Citadel metalic green (which in their catalogue is # 128 - Enchanted Green).

Thanks for the help folks, I will try mixing and if it doesn't work I will try one of these paints. I am hoping to capture the metallic look on the paintings of Uriel Ventris from the older Ultramarine novel covers.

I did see a tutorial somewhere where a guy painted his mini mithril silver and then did washs over it to get a metallic blue, don't see why that couldn't work for green as well.

Yeah, look up Viva Metallica, think he has a blog or website somewhere...

Basically, you just coat your dude in Mithril Silver, then give it a wash of Badab black. Once that dries give it a wash of any colour you want/have (in this case, Thraka Green), and give it about 2-3 layers. Works quite well.

How about mixing some Thraka Green Wash with the Mithril Silver? Or try to mix metallic paint with some of the older Green Inks if you have them?

Somewhere in south-central England.

You can make any acrylic paint into a metallic by adding iridescent or pearlescent medium.

http://www.artifolk.co.uk/catalog/products/individual_acrylic_paints/daler_rowney_pearlescent_tinting_medium_75ml_tube.htm

Several companies make this kind of medium. I just showed the Daler & Rowney because it was high in the Google search rankings.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Go the the nearest Craft Store. Americana craft paints has a whole line on metallic craft paints. These paints are in the same section you find Apple Barrel Paints and Cremecoat Paints. Not top quality but, they do the job nonetheless.

I did something similar for a Drop Pod before I got around to getting more of the metallic green from Coat D'Arms. So yes, it does work.

Indeed, they still do make those. The green is decent, but when lightly drybrushed it looks more blue than green. Just painted on it is quite green.

Tried it, didn't work. Came up with a yucky marsh green.

Try mixing blue ink with gold paint instead.
