I always get very excited after painting a model, sprint over to my camera, and snap a few shots. by then i have calmed down and trot over to my computer, upload them and then BAM i get pictures that make my models look ugly, make my models hurt other peoples eyes, and for the most part are usually blurry because the camera focuses on the wrong thing. you can see some such pictures in my gallery (mostly under my dark eldar) if you think it will help come up with a solution. Thanks a ton!

Here are a few tricks when using a DIGI Camera on miniatures (seeing that I use one as well, a cheap ass 90 dollar one).

Firstly- Turn off the flash, always keep it off. When taking photos you want natural light, not light made from the Camera itself. It makes everything way to light and brings out colors in all the wrong places.

Secondly- If your camera has a portrait mode - use it. It's one of the most amazing ways to keep many lines where you want them, detail from a few inches away.

Thirdly- Many digital cameras have a way to focus in on the image. This is usually done by pressing down the picture camera lightly, just until the "snap-photo" button clicks down once lightly. At this point you should hear your camera lens adjusting, and the picture on your screen de-fusing. This may take a few times before you get it right, but it is the most important thing to do (besides no flash).

Lastly- NATURAL LIGHT. LAMP LIGHT! NO FLASH! X3.

Hope that helped.

1. Use the macro function - not portrait mode - (look for a little flower icon.) if you have it. It is similar to portrait mode in that it locks a certain aperture and shutter speed as well, but the focal distance is much shorter.
2. Also use a tripod, beanbag or some other way of keeping the camera level that doesn't involve you holding it (since 90% of camera shake issues are caused by the holder).
3. Check your destruction manual. It should have the minimum focus distance for the macro setting (in cm). Do not go less than this. Also check it to see if the self timer works in other modes apart from "grinning idiot" mode (mine has a stupid smiley face icon for this).
4. DO NOT USE a white background. This fools many cameras into underexposing the subject - better to go for a light grey or pale blue (blue will make other colours 'pop' and be more apparent.

As for flash, this depends greatly upon what flash you have, what range and angle you are using it at, and what power level you use.
In general, though, the flash units on most compact cameras are not designed for close-up work and will simply white-out your subject.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Take the picture outside or flood it with light if inside. Even though it may look bright enough inside, the camera will often have problems.
