I put together a 1500 point list of Cadians for a three game tournament. How would you modify it and why would you change it?

This list combines a veteran mech-melta squad with a big infantry platoon. I tossed in some of my favorite Leman Russes for support. The Enginseer is part of my fluff and he's my avatar so he stays even though he doesn't really earn points about half the time. Just consider him my handicap.

HQs
Company Command Squad with Vox, Grenade Launcher, Heavy Weapons Team (Autocannon), Chimera HB 125
Techpriest with two technical servitors 75

Elites
None

Troops
Vet Sqd, 3 melta guns, Chimera HF 155

Infantry Platoon (565 points total)
Command Squad with Vox, Grenade Launcher, Heavy Weapons Team (Autocannon), Chimera HB 105
Infantry Squad with Commissar (Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon), Vox, Grenade Launcher, Heavy Weapons Team (Autocannon), SGT 115
Infantry Squad with Grenade Launcher, Heavy Weapons Team (Autocannon), SGT 65
Infantry Squad with Commissar (Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon), Vox, Heavy Weapons Team (Heavy Bolter), SGT 110
Infantry Squad with Heavy Weapons Team (Heavy Bolter), SGT 60
Infantry Squad with Heavy Weapons Team (Heavy Bolter), SGT 60
Special Weapons Squad with three flamers 50

Fast Attack
None

Heavy Support
LR Vanquisher with Knight Commander Pask, HB, HB Sponsons 225
LR Demolisher HB 165
LR Executioner HB 190

TOTAL: 1500 points

Summary:
3 Tanks (1 Demolisher Siege Cannon + HB, 1 Executioner Plasma Cannon + HB, 1 Vanquisher Battle Cannon + 3 HB at BS 4)
3 Chimeras ( 3 Multi-Lasers, 2 HB, 1 HF)
4 Autocannons
3 Heavy Bolters
0 Lascannons
3 Meltas
4 Grenade Launchers
3 Flamers + 1 Vehicle mounted Heavy Flamer
0 Plasma guns
2 Power Weapons (Commissars)

81 models (75 of them are infantry including 7 HW teams)

The tournament requires fully painted models so many players bring lots of vehicles and not much infantry. There will be skimmers but I don't have anything to deal with them other than a high volume of fire. I'm also weak in anti-cover, anti-invuln (hard for IG to get), and indirect fire capabilities. I've got some AV14 killers as well as 2+ AS killers. The big questions in my mind are whether I can pop enough enemy transport at a distance, what to do about Lootas/Devastators/Havocs/Broadsides at ranges beyond 36", and whether I can deal with deep strike CC armies.

Drop the Flamer Special Weapon Squad; it will never get to use those flamers.

Drop the AC from your PCS, and CCS take the Flamers on your PCS and Upgrade the Grenade launcher on your CCS to 2 Meltas.

Take the 50 points from the Special weapons and put Plasma Sponsons on your executioner. you have 5 points left...

Take the Vox out of the PCS and add a 3rd Melta to your CCS.

I take it in KP missions you plan to Combine your Infantry into 2 squads. This will be good, hell in objective missions 4 scoring units(2 in Chimeras) will do you well.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

The tournament is over and I ended up 1-1. I had a bye in the first round so I only played two games. The guy that beat me won the tournament. He had a deceptively dangerous Salamanders SM army. Two Whirlwinds and a drop podding dreadnought tore most of my army to shreds.

Now I'm considering a different 1500 point IG list:

HQs
Company Command Squad with 3 meltas, Chimera HF HK 145

Elites
DH inquisitor with 2 mystics, bolt pistol, CCW, and melta bombs 39

Troops
Vet Sqd, 3 melta guns, Chimera HF HK 165
Vet Sqd, 3 melta guns, Chimera HF HK 165

Infantry Platoon (790 points total)
Command Squad with 4 flamers, Chimera HB HK 115
Infantry Squad with flamer, Chimera HF HK 120
Infantry Squad with flamer, Chimera HF HK 120
Infantry Squad with flamer, Chimera HB HK 120
Infantry Squad with flamer, Chimera HB HK 120
Infantry Squad with flamer, Chimera HB HK 120
Heavy Weapon Squad with 3 AC 75

Fast Attack
None

Heavy Support
Hydra HB 75
Hydra HB 75

TOTAL: I have committed about 1449 points. Anyone have a good idea for how to use the other 51 points?

The prevalent armies in my area are Orks, Space Marines, Tyranids, and IG. Most of the other armies are practically extinct. There was one Tau army.

The Orks varied between one all infantry horde (5x30 slugga boyz) and a 3 battlewagon/1 wartrukk army. None have Nob bikers. No walkers.

The Space Marines favor 1-3 drop pods, 1 Predator, 1-2 Vindicators, 2-4 Rhinos, and 1-2 dreadnoughts. Most of the troops are tactical marines broken up into combat squads. A few players use Razorbacks instead of Rhinos. One local army is almost all bikes and attack bikes. Landraiders are rarely seen (too pricey in a 1500 point list).

The Tyranids like Trygons, Tervigons (usually 2), hive guard, and termagaunts. One player adds gargoyles. The other likes genestealers. No deepstrike units.

The IG vary widely. Most used 1-3 Valkyries. These were often kitted out with the multiple rocket pods. Plasma Executioners or Demolishers are common. One player besides me likes a lot of Chimeras. The others run lots of squads on foot. Artillery is very rare.

There was one Tau army. It had two Fire Warrior squads. The rest of the army was crisis suits, a unit of 2 Broadside battlesuits, and the commander with four bodyguards in crisis suits.

Mobility is very important in the tournaments since they use their own scenarios and setup which place a premium on mobility and scoring units (troops). One scenario also values morale check avoidance so troops in the open taking lots of fire is a bad thing. Games always end in Turn 5 or earlier due to time constraints.

I would rather have a Single Plasma cannon armed armored sentinel than an Auto cannon squad.

The way that scoring works here, a lot of troops are more useful than a single sentinel. I agree that the sentinel has many advantages but it can't sit on my back corner objective and give me points in the local tournament. I need some troop unit to sit back there while the Chimeras go forth to either seize enemy objectives or enter his deployment zone (which also scores points in the local tournament). A sentinel can only accomplish one of those three objective options. There are some scenarios where killing enemy units matters and the sentinel would do better vs. MEQ in those games but I have three painted ACs and no armored sentinel with a plasma cannon. A bird in the hand...
