So yesterday I was just reading over some thing and it just popped up. The question is does the Tarrot effect give you say a plus,minus 1 to see the initiative.

Page 92 of the small ed book right side says this.

"On a result of a 6, he will go first instead, immediately beginning his first turn(etc)"

Page 17 of the DH codex says this,

Emp Tarot: etc-----------If the dice rolls are different, the dh player gets a plus 1 on the dice roll to ascertain who goes first. if same minus 1 etc.

Both target points talk about going first and this ties them both together.

Errm... The Tarot is talking about the initial roll off to see who goes first, it doesn't have ANY effect on the Seize the Initiative Roll.

I'd say no.

The roll to see who goes first is a contested roll, both players roll, highest goes first.

The roll for seize the initiative is a single roll made by the player going second, if he rolls a 6, he gains the jump on the opponent.

There is no opponents dice roll to compare to when seizing the initiative. how do you apply

Could you quote the section your talking about because the Tarot only talks about ascertain. Ascertain only talks about going first and in all the context, there is nothing about rolling off to go first, just that you just a plus one on ascertain.

The tarot only talks about adding one or takig one away from your dice roll. It says nothing about rolls off or anything. Just that you either get a plus or minus to add to your going first. Both rolls decide who goes first.

What part of "IF THE DICE ROLLS ARE DIFFERENT" are you missing?

Are the dice rolls different? No, because you are only rolling one dice. Therefore the plus or minus one to the roll will never take place.

The first step is the plus or minus roll, then after that you roll to see who goes first and then you can seize.

That is from your post. Note the "If" clause at the start? If that "If" clause is not fulfilled you cannot plus or minus 1

If I understand Emperor's Tarot correctly, you actually make a separate roll before you roll for first turn; if the dice rolls in this separate roll are different, then you add +1 to your roll for first turn. This is what the OP is talking about - the if refers to this separate roll that you make before you roll for first turn.

It is wordy and long winded, but it breaks down like this, in steps:

1) Both players roll off. Keep track of the difference here, it will modify the Inquisitor's next roll.

2) Roll again, this is to see who goes first. Add the modifier (+/- 1) to the Inquisitor's roll.

3) Whoever gets second turn (after setup) will get a single roll to attempt to seize the initiative. There are no modifiers.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to in any case. You seize on a 6, not a 6+. So if you used the tarrot and rolled a 6 it would become a 7 and you don't seize on a 7, just a 6.
