Hey everyone, How do you paint your space marines? What steps do you guys take?
I currently paint my Ultramarines using this technique:

White undercoat
-> paint everything mordian blue.
-> Roughly paint the eyes blood red, and paint the wings and the shoulder armor outline burnished gold (2 coats)
-> Use a mic of 2:1 Black ink and water to fill in all creases, mouth piece, bio-pack, and well as the outer lining of the eyes
->Clean up all the edges and add minor layering highlights using Ultramarines blue, add devlan mud to the crest on the chest. and around the rims on the shoulder armor
->using Arsmens blue, create shadows and darkened areas in desired areas
-> once I clean everything up, I use a 60:40 percent mix of ultra blue and skull white to highlight all the edges
-> I usually add a little dot in the corner of the eye as well

For the Weapon:
I usually paint it black and drybrush one coat of boltgun metal, and a second coat of mithril silver.
I use blood red for the weapons at times, and apply devlan mud to all red areas after they dry

So that's my method, How do you guys paint your models? I'm also open to suggestions!

So here's the final result:

I paint Blood Angels, but the same technique can be used for most red armies. Credit goes to one of the staff at my local GW for showing me this.

- Prime White.
- Basecoat all the armour in Mechrite Red.
- Paint the weapon, and any metallic areas Chaos Black.
- Paint the metallic areas with the required metallic colour (Boltgun Metal for most stuff, Mithril Silver or Chainmail for some things).
- Wash the ENTIRE model with a heavy coat of Badab Black. Make sure it really sits in the recesses of the armour and so on.
- Mix up a 50:50 pallette of Blood Red and Mechrite Red, and paint it on all the armour plates, making sure to not go in the recesses. This will leave an effect that makes the Badab Black wash shadow the intersecting plates.
- Make sure that the Badab Black wash settled in the eye sockets of the Marine's helmet. If it didn't, hit it with a little wash. Once dry, carefully paint the eyes in. I use Goblin Green, as it contrasts well with the red armour. You can then use a slightly lighter shade to highlight a corner of the eye if you wish.
- Paint any parchment with Dheneb Stone, then wash it with Gryphonne Sepia or Devlan Mud, depending on how dirty you want it to look. Detail the parchment with liturgies in a grey or black colour.
- Paint the aquila with the colour of your choice. I tend to paint them in a metallic colour, unless its a high-ranking unit, like Honour Guard. Those guys get 2 coats of Shining Gold on the Aquilas, before a wash of Gryphonne Sepia.
At this point, the model is tabletop ready (aside from basing), but if you want to highlight, you can highlight the armour edges with either pure Blood Red or a 50:50 mix of Blood Red and Blazing Orange, or even pure Blazing Orange for extreme highlights.

Finally, very nice Ultramarine, very clean paintjob and noticeable highlighting.
