Breaking Something Valuable

So here I am again, another list. this time, I came up with a list directly after a game- orks, and then mech guard. Thinking after a win that I was invincible, the mech guard crushed me. Learning from the orks, who desrtoyed every vehicle I fielded, I considered a Power armored horde army. So here it is:
HQ: Ragnar -240
Wolf preist, melta bombs, Runic, wolf tail- 130

Troops:
5 GH squads- 9 man, meltagun, Standard, wulfen. 2 Drop pods, 3 rhinos. -1000
Blood claws,15 man 2 flamers- 225

Heavy support- Vindicator, seige shield- 125
land raider crusader, multimelta- 260

Elite:
Wolf guard- 5 with combi melta, PF 215
5 with termie armor, 4 lc, 2 frost axes or PF, 2 combi meltas, 1 assault cannon/ cyclone, 1 TH or CF, droppod- 305

Total: 2500. Huzzah!

The plan is to take ragnar and termie WG, droppod them in (notice odd number of DP's) and ride the three rhinos at the eniemis face, while the Bc's and wolf priest ride aroundasaulting infantry. Vindi breaks down hordes or armored targets into nice, bite sized chunks. Whaddya think? all critisism gladly excepted- say what you mean!

Can't fit ragnar in with the termis; you have 5(which equates to 10 models) and a Drop pod has a transport capacity of 10

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Doh! knew I forgot something. Hmmm. O yeah, I could drop one termie, give BC's a pack leadr (drop one) and put another ranged weapon on the suad. Yeah!

Looks okay.

IMHO, I would drop the MoTW and replace it with a power weapon.

While MoTW gives you a potential chance of 6 Rending attacks, on average you'll get about 3-4 with a chance of rending, where-as a power weapon will get you 3 attacks on the charge, that will autokill anything without an invul save.

They both cost the same points, so you might get more bang for your buck that way.

I'd also be tempted to drop 1 GH squad and switch it out for Long Fangs, or a Dakka Pred or a Dread.

I like the long fangs idea, but I don't want to replace a GH squad...

The list looks pretty solid actually. The BCs in a LRC with a WP are an awesome unit, I run two of those in 1850 games and they smash through peoples armies easily. The only things in your list I don't like is first Ragnar in a DP, he is going to draw a lot of fire because he is rightly feared. I also don't like single Vindicators because they get popped too easily.

Actually, to me that's the point of the vindi. Draw fire from the transports, and if the enemy shoots at the LRC, well, here comes the S10 pieplate!

1 vindi and 1 lrc at 2.5k?

Folks will have enough long-range anti-tank that unless you get first turn, I doubt you will get to do ANYTHING with them.

With the plethora of IG and marine lists with mystics out there, I wouldn't do drop pods either.

I suppose if you are just tailoring this list for your local group to try to qualify at 'ard boyz, it might work for that, but don't take this to a regional event.

Just wanted to make sure you were aware. I wouldn't worry about the mystics. The thing with them is they get to target the UNIT that deepstrikes, the unit that deepstrikes is the drop pod NOT the unit inside the droppod so the mystics can only let them target the droppod. If it blows up the guys inside take wounds the same way as if a Rhino full of guys had blown up.

You should check the faq. You are completely incorrect.

Darn. That's a problem. However, all rhino gets shot up pretty easy. However, it does work very well if using vindi and land raiders as bait.

@ jaweyermuller, or anyone, What would you suggest to replace the Ragnar as HQ? A termie lord might work for me.

Or Arjac.

It's not that I don't like Ragnar as an HQ, I don't like the idea of you drop podding him in to his death. The only HQ choice I will place in a drop pod (with SW) is a Rune Priest or Logan Grimnar with a Long Fang squad. A drop pod unit that is as awesome as a Wolf Guard unit will draw tons of fire, doubly so if you have an awesome character with them. I would suggest taking a Rune Priest to go in the pod or a Lord on a Thunderwolf with Frost Blade, Storm Shield, and saga of the bear or saga of the warrior born with a fenrisian wolf squad as ablative wounds. If that's not an option then a normal Wolf Lord with FB/SS or TH/SS wouldn't be bad. If drop podding a character sounds cool to you go for Bjorn, he is one hell of a Special Character to see clambering out of a drop pod. Arjac would be a neat alternative, I have only seen him run once and his ability to throw his TH is cool, although I haven't run him personally so I can't speak to exactly how viable this option is. Maybe others have had more extensive experience with him and can speak to Arjacs strengths and weaknesses. Hope that wasn't too long winded...

Actually, Arjac ends up cheaper than Ragnar, And I'll be Podding him in With the WG- they should be able to take down ALOT with their shotting, and their armor should take some serious fire. Also, this list is key about having several "Must kill" units, so the enemy should split their fire between osme, or if they concentrate on one, get killed by the res

I think you are definitely achieving the bait and switch style list you are going for. Arjac does sound solid, I like him instead of Ragnar primarily because he is so much cheaper than Ragnar. I hope you let us know how it plays out.
